Boring in Iowa, ainit?

cdrad51 12-08-04 11:34 PM

Ok so I just came back from another run. Tonite was the first time I was able to really test the difference after handling the intake manifold issue last weekend, since on Monday and Tuesday the road was kinda wet. After a few tries, I was able to do 8.37! I know it's not a world record, but much better and kinda what I expected from this setup. So I'm happy in that regard.

One of the things I also did differently was at what rpm I shifted. I actually watched the tach and the rpms go faster from 7 to 8k rpm than from 6 to 7, one of the attributes of the streetported engine, which I was missing on.

You have no idea how boring it is here lol. I usually shift at 7500 to 7750 into 2nd and then at 7500 into 3rd. When I am trying for the fast times. I have tried other rpms also for shifting and this has yielded best for me so far. I need more fuel!

Sterling 12-09-04 06:53 AM

I shift consistantly @ 7500 RPMs, unless I wanna beat on it. ;)

Told you initially that you didn't know how to drive the damn thing.
But hey, blame the carb, right?

Popcorn long gone and bag on the floor... drink gone and ice turned to water... show over and credits rolling... wondering if the fat lady is going to sing an apology ?

Well that's when I'm not beating on her.
I learned to take it easy after I tore the rear tires off the rims during a 2nd-3rd shift @ 65 MPH. (Doncha just hate it when that happens?)

Oh the TORQUE!

Why so negative? how hard would be to say "hey great! that's more like it. Good job on the manifold. Keep working at it". But no, he had to make his negative comment. So yeah, I did that time despite that piece of shit carb that you produce. Mel, can I borrow a weber with manifold so I can really unleash the ponies in my car? :D

not a good idea. I may not get it back ;) but have either carl or sterling port the pre-81 12-A manifold (my xmas gift to ya). if not, I will have my bro port them since he has a flow bench.

BTW: stelring/carl, as soon as I get the Solex door locks, I will ship them

I'm obviously just fucking with ya, and unless Sterling was also fucking around when he made that "blame it on the carb" comment, I will seriously start believing he really is coockoo, coockoo, coockoo!

I'd rather get it ported locally, if Dave can do it, awesome. We'll talk when I swing by this weekend.

Sterling 12-09-04 11:09 AM

Yeah, Fat-ass, I was just fuckin' with ya.
But make no mistake about it- I'm still coockoo!

Now go crank yer fuel pressure up to 22 psi like I told you.

Ok I'll take your word for it - Coockoo! :p:

Pressure cranked to 22 psi like you suggested. Now I have a question though. Is it normal to have gas pouring out of the air filter at that pressure? I thought that was a little odd, but maybe it's just me?

Sterling 12-09-04 01:17 PM

No! Smack your accelerator pump with a hammer. That should stop the bleeding.
If that doesn't work, then you're gonna have to JB weld the airhorn shut.

cdrad51 12-09-04 01:32 PM

Oh Ok I knew that wasn't normal. Tried the hammer, but no joy. Might have to try a bigger one. In the meantime, thank god I always carry JB weld in my tool bag, in case the bigger hammer fails. Can't wait to test it after this! I'll probably hit low 5's on the 0-60!!!!!

d0 Luck 12-09-04 05:06 PM

dream on sir! :D

Siraniko 12-09-04 05:35 PM

I bet NoLuck can do better but we have to make sure that there are no other cars on the street. Otherwise, it may become a

Sterling 12-10-04 06:35 PM

Fat-Ass & I are like the repelling ends of magnets, but we HAVE to stick together through this to beat NoLuck's ass!

cdrad51 12-10-04 06:40 PM

Yeap, Cuckoo and I seem to have the same polarity.

NoLuck's got nothing, just an FI SE with headers and direct fire. I'll have him from breakfast anyday of the week! Let's take it to the track so there's no chance for him to crash into parked cars! :rlaugh:

d0 Luck 12-10-04 09:05 PM

guys guys guys... we all know fuel injection is better the carburators. :bigthumb:
and i ain't skuurrrred of no chumpy stock carb! how do i know? i played w/ one already.. not all that great even modified. but w/ IDA's, that's something. yes, my .02 cents.
