Tested my 0-60

using an old G-Tech and was only able to do 9.71 as my best. :(

hornbm 11-25-04 01:46 AM

you got some major tuning to do, you should be way faster than that

cdrad51 11-25-04 02:44 AM

:(

RotorMotorDriver 11-25-04 02:52 AM

Thats all I could pull off in my 83 with the mods in my sig, but it died soon after loosing compression on one rotor, and Im pretty sure it had low compression on both to begin with when I swapped it in.

hiboost7 11-25-04 06:55 AM

sounds about right, stock 1st gens pull 10 or so till 60.....you'll shine afterwards though. thats why i always ran from a second gear pull, so ill have a chance, haha.

IanS 11-25-04 07:04 AM

So would 0-90 be a better way to compare?

Yeah but that's my point. My car is not exactly stock.

Rx-7Doctor 11-25-04 12:22 PM

0-60 time

Well, heres some official testing done in 94 by sports car graphic magazine on the mikuni 44phh setup with rb complete header system, stock 3.909 gears and 195/50x15 tires. Average 0-60 times were 7.92 sec with a best of 7.7 sec.
Official dyno tested hp is 142 with 136 lbs of torque. This was on an 83 gs model. Top speed was recorded at 128mph and still accelerating. I ran this same system on my previous rx's with a 12a with a lightened steel flywheel, stock coils and ngk
wires and it was very responsive, passing at 60-100mph was very quick. Even the stock gsle 13b from the factory with 135 hp had average times around 8 sec 0-60.
I dont know if your g-tech is that accurate. Do you have the stock flywheel and
fan clutch. If you still have both, try an experiment, take off the fan clutch and fan,
simple to do and use shorter bolts to retain the pulley and rerun your numbers.
Dont worry it will not overheat unless you sit there and idle. Your fan clutch does
very little when there is ram air coming thru the front. Let me know your results.

Whats the compression on the engine?

Siraniko 11-25-04 01:13 PM

I say....JUNK IT!!
j/k :D

hornbm 11-25-04 07:08 PM

yeah hes ported though. That shoudl make him much faster.

Im stock port and I can usaully get around 6 or 7 or so, granted I have a 13B.

Rx-7Doctor 11-25-04 10:46 PM

0-60

There is a chance that your compression is low in one rotor housing, i had this happen with a new engine, eventually it seated in and made alot more hp. Run a
check on this first. rx7doctor

RotorMotorDriver 11-26-04 02:24 AM

Yeah, like I said, look at the mods in my sig, I could only pull off just under 10 seconds 0-60. Granted it WAS stock port though... Anyway, the point was, I had low compression in one rotor, and the engine eventually lost all compression in that rotor.

cdrad51 11-26-04 04:08 AM

I'm gonna do a compression test tomorrow, and I'll let you guys know.

Sterling 11-26-04 07:08 AM

It's yer driving.

You suck.

:D

What's the jetting configuration? (Fuel & Air)
How are you driving it?
With mech.sec.s you can NOT stomp the pedal. You will go MUCH faster if you only open the throttle to the point where the secondaries are about to open, and then slowly but steadily open them after 4500 RPMs.

Yo Jeffy- You payin' attention?
If you use a hefty big-ass spring on your carby, you won't be able to feel the spring action of the secondary shaft spring, and you won't be able to learn to "drive the carb" to it's full potential consistantly.

I dare you to repeat that while I'm in my car, about to do my next 0-60 test, and you are in front of me :D

Ok. 150/180 for fuel jets, whatever it came with for air jets. Haven't touched those.

This is how I drove it in the best try. I revved it to 4500 rpm and feathered the clutch off the start. Still lost a bit of traction, even with the 215s. Took it to 7.5-8k rpm, shifted to 2nd and floored it immediately (if you don't, the car will bog because you are over 4500 rpm by the time you are into the next gear and the engine will be gasping for air and fuel), took it to 8k rpm and shifted to 3rd, and then I saw the 9.71 flashing in the G-tech.

Off to do a compression test...

cdrad51 11-26-04 03:36 PM

So I got 100 psi on both rotors, the highest one at least (I have a conventional tester). That should be good enough, shouldn't it?

Snapshot 11-26-04 04:11 PM

My 81 w/ custom SP 13B can do 0-60 faster. BUT, from a rolling start. These cars ain't got it from the stand still. So 10-60 is my game.

Hmm maybe. But when I raced this 2001 Prelude HS, I Actually got him off the line until the end of 1st, and from that point to 70 mph he beat me. That's a 7 secs 0-60 car.

cdrad51 11-27-04 12:39 AM

Did another couple of runs tonite. I was able to do 9.37 as my best. A little better, but still not happy. I was hoping for low 8s with this setup. My guess is that I can take it to 9.00 by tweaking the driving technique a little bit. And then see how to get more hp...

IanS 11-27-04 12:55 AM

I too have gained time (slower) by adjusting mine. I retarded my timing so it doesnt make the weird high rpm noise anymore. I am assuming that the noise is detonation. I also lost a bit of low end power. I may advance it a tad just to gain back some of the power I lost. My best time was 8.9 from a stand still. I launched at roughly 2750 and spun a bit but not enough to really lose any time. I also did not do a burnout to warm the tires up.

How do you do a 0-60 run from a rolling start? :D

~T.J.

cdrad51 12-07-04 02:28 AM

Well I measured it again, after handling the shutter valve and othe minus things, and got a 9.23, but I was loosing traction due to the road not been completely dry due to recent rains, so I'm confident I can go under 9 seconds next time i try.

QuagmireMan 12-07-04 07:45 AM

maybe you should try your 0 - 60 going down hill :D

Maybe like you, he's not a 7 second driver. ;)
