TERRIBLE LUCK WITH THE RX7! First time it left me stranded,,,,,,,
So I was in town today about to go out to the beach, and i go to start my car at the gas station. The previous owner had a hot wire goin from the batt to the pump, with a toggle in the dash. So i toggle like i always do and nothing happens. I take some speaker wire i had and do a strait shot to the battery and nothing. My fuel pump is dead. So a buddy and i towed it back tonight. About a 10 mile drive, and he has an 89 Escort 5spd so it was interesting.. A friend of mine said it might have died because its bypassed, like theres no sending unit involved. My guage didnt work either. And to add insult to injury, the Headlights wont come down.
So should I get a new relay and such? I gotta drop the tank anyway, its got a bit of a leakk.

It kinda sounds like a blown fuseable link to me. Check those as well as all your fuses first before you go buying any new parts...

EDIT: Although, I dont see how a blown fuse or fuseable link could stop the pump from working with a straight power feed. It shouldnt basically. Hmmm...

Right, however, TJ - there may have been an overload which killed the fuel pump and blew the fuseable link.
I have a toggleswitch on my fuel pump - but I have it going through a fused circuit for just that reason. Don't want it to blow and cause other issues.
Besides, the stock amp for the rear speakers is literally 3 inches away from where the fuel pumps wiring harness mates. Makes it easy as pie to do the wiring.

well.....
I used to wire switches directly to the freakin thing... like the fuse was inline circut....
now there is now way in hell I will... USE A DAMN RELAY!
Since I started using relays, my switches dont burn up..
see if your switch has been burnt up.... and you probably blew a fuse when playin with the wiring... so check them and the fusable links..... (head light problem solved?) and wire in a relay......
cause the pump might not have died... might have been just the switch fried..............

Well i pulled out the pump and tested it, no dice. Looks like its time for a new one. I kinda wanna fix the sending unit too so i got a guage, and my tanks got a leak so its gotta come down anyway. Oh, by the way, the reason my headlights were stuck is from when i towed it home, i fumbled for the Hazard switch, and knock the light-lock switch haha. Oh well, thanks!
