attaching rubber side strips

Hello forum members, anyone have any experience attaching the black rubber side strips? What kind of glue? I did a search and found some used spray on rubber cement, others 3M double sticky tape, but not much science here. What's the best product to keep them from falling off - this is the one below the gas cap, so it sees some gas once in a while.

Thanks!
Ray

Most people try to pull their's off and you want to put your's back on. I spent a good 4 hours taking mine off and sanding off the double sided taped.

In answer to your question, use the 3M double sided sticky tape, it's what was on mine and it took ALOT to get mine off. Look for the tape that is spongey.

I used AutoGoop (tm) for my side strips. It holds good, but is easy to get off, as well. The only catch is that you have to tape the strips on while the glue sets.

The type of urethane they use for windshields....

I attached a spoiler like that once. A minute after I put it on, I tried to get it off just for ***** and giggles, and it wouldn't come off....That was over 3 years ago, and I don't even have the car anymore, but it's still holding.

I think I'll go with the 3M tape, it is similar to the thin rubber double sticky strips that held the original pieces down and worked nicely for 20 years. Also it should be easy to get a good alignment that will stay in place right away. I'll pick some up tomorrow, let you know how it works! Hey Anthrax, why you called Anthrax. Don't worry, I'm not with Homeland Security.

OK, the the 3MM ds tape is nasty, it really sticks. I got the stuff they sell at Home Depot "for outside use", it's the same as the stuff sold in the auto parts stores "for moldings" but it is wider and less expensive. It's easy to trim with a razor blade to exactly fit the molding strip and sticks so tight I'm sure it will be there for the next 20 years. Thanks to O 16581 72452 5 for the suggestion!

Hey ray green in respons to your question...

It started way befor the world went into the toilet with all this anthrax stuff...

I got it when I was in University, I have a BSc. in Biology, with a focus on Microbiology and Immunology.

I got kinda facinated with B. Cerious , and B. Anthracus, the latter is what causes Anthrax, and people started calling me "the anthrax guy", got sortened to anthrax.

I think the spore formers are relly cool.

any way that is story behind my handel.

take care

anthrax

Yup

Dribel Dribel...

I only do self serve now.

My guess is that the previous owner would not know what end of the gas pump goes into the car.

Becides I used to work as a full service gas station attendant... So I like to pump my own gas. It is less abusive on the car.

As far as Bio is concerned ...

It seems with just an Undergrad i cant get arrested in the research labs.

I am headed into an MLT program so that sould atleast get me into a Hospital lab...I hope

Take Care all.

I guess I kinda hijacked this thread... not my intension sory

Anthrax, you are seriously sounding like a professor, give this some thought if it's what you really want to be doing. PS I am looking for some grad students, spore formers are OK.
