Terminology

FD = 3 gen

FC = 2 gen

?? = 1 gen

What is it?

SA= 1st gen 79-80

Series 1: 1979-1980
Seires 2: 1981-1983
Series 3: 1984-1985

Series 4: 1986-1988
Series 5: 1989-1991

Series 6: 1993
Series 7: 1994-1995

I think that's right.

Yeah, a lot of people keep saying that all 1st gens from 79-85 are FB's?! I say that if my serial # says SA-22c, it's an SA-22c...

'79-'80 = SA
'81-'85 = FB

All 1st gens outside of the US/Canada are SA22's.

US/Canada had the requirement of a 17 character VIN in 1981, and the format got changed.

JM1 means Mazda Passenger car.
FB33 means RX-7 Coupe

SA22C means the same as both of the above together.
