Wink Oh, Boy.....

Hiya, Cowboys and girls....

Been off line for a while...Computer took a leap thru a rolling donut on a gravel driveway....
Got a deal on a Sony Vaio, but now I've gotta get a new scanner. Windows XP won't accept my Epson scanner....And of course I now have to learn how to use XP....

Meanwhile....Back at the ranch...
Jon's engine on his wrecked 2nd gen is still good, and runs. Now he's faced with pulling it and puttin' it into the '87 2nd gen that I pulled out of the alley....Oh, boy...

Workin' on my SE, it's been runnin' weak above 4000 rpm. Almost like if the port actuators aren't working...or the much noted and infamous clogged cats....Put driving lamps, Hellas, under the bumper, pulled the grille, replaced it with aluminum mesh painted flat black...Don't look bad, and is a definate improvement in night driving. (No comments on my age and failing sight, you bunch of nasties!) While doing the light job, shot some sparks, burned my thumb, so I had to replace the fusible link. Just for the Hell of it, replaced 'em all....Whoa, performance increase like new! Climbs to 7 grand plus with no lag or hold back! Could it be that the engine or fuel pump link was going bad, or in some way going South? Any thoughts?

Raided the yards again, and low and behold, another SE has joined the hardcore....Interior shot, front banged in, engine looks old and very used, but the rims were almost showroom, tires nearly new, and both roofs and the roof cover were there! Suffice to say that 75 bucks warn't bad for the lot!

So far Winter won't show its face so I'll keep runnin' the little hoss....It's more fun than ever!

Oh....Mr. Saint7, nice wing....I looked at one of those before deciding on the one I have....It just wasn't high enough to be functional in my case, and I wanted to have plenty of adjustment room. Welcome to the Winged 7 Club....And don't be so defensive, everybody here means well, they just act like their cars....with honesty, and no bull....Nothing to get hung about. Oh, and by the way, I like your taillights. Look good on a white car, but I don't think they'd look right on a Silver...

Still wavin' the 'ol Stetson,
Denny, from the 'ol corncrib....
:p

Thanx Max...
It's good to be back....What a hassle...And just before Xmas too.

Let's see....Okay, four glass tops, 3 cars....Shoot, somethin' like that....I'll have to go count.

Silly kid loves those 2nd gens. Anyway, doin' a swap will be a good learnin' experience for him and I both. Oh, I think I'll take the gray leather seats from the Alley 2nd gen and mount 'em into Silver....What say you regarding fusible links? Anyway to test 'em?

So you might have a spare roof eh? >wink< >wink<

Swapping will be fun, we are putting a 87 motor into Pauls GSL over the winter, ECU and all, oh what a joy doing to wiring.
was going to swap in a GSL-SE motor, but figured it would be about the same amount of work, so why not have a more powerful motor

you'll have to use the 89 ECU in the 87 car, not sure if the wiring is compatible, that would be a major PITA to change that too.

I've never heard of a good test for those fusey linkz, just take them out and put in a 2nd gen fuse block, seems to work better.

I tested fusible links off my car with a multi range tester... Flip the switch over to resistance and touch either end. If they actually transmit electricity, you know they work (with the least amount of resistance as possible)... That seemed to work in my car. This was when my fuel pump was disconnected...

Checked PM's Cowboys....Nothing there since Nov. 16th....Hell, send me messages to my E-mail...btcat@bright.net

2nd gen fuse block, eh? Sound good. I'll give it a try. Did the count on tops....Four solids, and four glass, three Seven's. So, I have an extra solid and an extra glass....He, he, he

Mark P, Hellas are 550's, and are rectangle shaped. You'll find there's an aluminum, fairly thick, piece of metal across the bottom of the bumper. Great for mounting lamps, cow-catchers. nasty signs, or maybe one of those neon bulbs! Sony's plenty fast, and amazingly quiet. Just have to go to boot camp on the Micro XP.

Here's a thought....Anyone ever consider punching an air-scoop into the front valance? It appears to be a logical place and you could use the stock air intake tube to run it into the engine bay.

Laffen, thanx for the tester tip.

Calling all parts scroungers.

I have talked with a few of you on getting my Rex back up to spec and so far so good. Now my current project is fixing the exhaust. The problem is I am really short on cash untill after the season. Presents for others come befor presents for me So what is the Rock bottom cheapest way to Quiet this beast down so I don't annoy my neighbors as I continue working on my engine ect. I live in ND so I don't have any emisions laws to worry about But will get a decent high flow cat come spring/ summer when I am working insted of going to school. Will a parts store sell me the pipes to get form manifold to muffler or will they insist that I need to do it all the right way?
I haven't pulled what is left of my exhaust yet but it all looks rather bad with several holes near mount points. Lastly I lost the heat shield that is just above the muffler anyone have a parts car that has one that I could get? Sorry I posted so much But I just haven't done exhaust my self before, I allways had it done at a shop.
Thanks in advance.

If you don't have emissions in your area then why are putting on a cat? Get a header, presilencers, and a muffler from Mazdatrix or Racing Beat. You can buy something cheap, but it will either melt or fall off in a month.

Try thepartstrader.com... someone might be selling some type of exhaust for your car.

Hey Denny!!!

I was just cruising through this alien forum (die-hard 2nd genner here!) and I saw the trouble your son got in with his machine. Remember, series 4 (86-88) and series 5 (89-91) engines and wiring harnesses are quite different. You can use the block but he'll need to swap front covers due to the OMP being mechanical (and more reliable) on the early years. That also means that you can stick with the early harness, but injectors and the 6-port system may also have to switched over.

Anyways...I'll see you soon!

Denny, you'll have to let me know if MS XP is anygood. I have a few copies of MS WIN2K Pro and 1 copy of Server. I'll be makin myself a nice little network when I can rustle up some money for a few more PCs. Only bad part about my Server disc is it is a dang eval copy. Only good for 4 months then I have to wipe and re-install. Got em all from my Win 2K classes. Hey, one of these days I would like to rival you in the spare hoss department. But I'll need a place to keep the things.

I have,,,i've finished my hood,,i installed a cold air intake, a
fiberglass naca duct, it's 9 1/2 , X 5 1/2, and 2 1/2 inches deep,
right over the air cleaner, with the hood open between the
bracing's,,while doing this i noticed a lot of un-used space behind
the valence,,a good place for a oil cooler, but can't decide on the
opening,,,naca duct, louver, etc,,something that works and looks
good at the same time..my oil cooler leaks some,so i'm looking
at oil coolers these days, and would like to place it up off the
ground from under the rad.in the un-used space, will need longer
hoses,,,steel braid,,,maybe some 2' X 5' "slits" with a wire mesh
screen the fill the "slits" from the back,,,for looks and keep out
any stuff...in the photo,,on the valance the black pieces are
tape,to see how it would look,so far i've just done the one,,the
opening on the hood functions though and is off-set from center

BIG Garage!?!?

What a great idea, Max! I'll donate a Big *** air compressor!

Mark, Nice Scoop on the hood...Regarding the valance, and this is for SE's as the air intake is right behind the right headlamp, I was thinking of putting a some type of hole/scoop where your tape is. Exactly where, and what size is still to be determined.

Rotohead, I'm getting used to XP, but I'm gonna need more time to learn all the in's and out's. Keep in touch...

Zachspazz, thanx for the info. Gonna need advice and guidance on this project for sure. So glad they changed things from '88 to '89.....

Hey Guys! Hear that? You hear that! It's Santa on a test run in his new 4-rotor! He's lookin' for a record quick run on the 25th!

what? collective rx7 workshop. sounds great to me. I can bring all of my hundreds of tools. Not to mention the fact that with all the rotary heads in one place we wouldn't have to wait for posts to figure out how to do everything!

(packs his trusty die grinders)

Let's do this thing... need a place to build "Cthulhu", the name I finally picked for my FC. ("He who Sleeps", humanity's worst nightmare, "the thing that Should Not Be")

And then, oh yeah, finally get WT lookin' good, sportin' a roll cage, new panels, etc. (Is it wrong to have two bridge ported RX-7s? )

Denny, sure enjoy reading your posts. I'm new to the RX-7 Forum and new to RX-7's although I did own an RX-3 back in the '70s. I almost, not the almost, wish I lived in the Central Ohio area so I could get in on this "Collective RX-7 Garage".

I have a niece living in Columbus, attending OSU. Maybe one of these days here I can get up into your neck of the woods.

I hope you like your Sony, I would like to get one, but I think I'll keep my 2000 model Gateway 850 MHz model for a year or two more.

Goes-hmmm...I thank you very kindly, sir. I sense from your post that you may be a Gent with a few years in his resume. Nice that you take the time to read the ramblin's of an 'ol Cowboy.

I got my elsdest Son in OSU, and my younger one's got a hankerin' to go as well...

The Sony...Well, so far so good. But it's still too new to pass judgement yet. Most of my lack of traction is from going over from Windows 98 to Windows XP....

My best to yuh, Pardner....Keep in touch, and maybe we can all meet some day in that proposed St. Louis RX-7 forum gatherin'.

....Now, about that Central Garage thing....

A tip of the Stetson,
Denny, workin' in the 'ol corncrib....
