Tear Porting??

I recently spoke to a guy who builds 12a's.He was telling me that with tear porting and tuning on the stock carb setup he could achieve 220 horses. Does this sound believeable. From what I know, and I don't know awhole lot , I'm very skeptikal. Also has anyone ever heard of a tear port??

Sounds like an eyebrow port. Or a narrow bridgeport that does not break into the water seal. Sounds about right but that carb would need more than tuned, it'll need bigger chokes and very big fuel jets, adjustable air jets. Talk to Sterling or Carl on this list, they can help with the Nikki carb. Oh, and poor MPG

Question don't know about a tear port, but a side port....

Dont know aobut a tear port but a side port will net wou around 200 on the older 12a's and 13b's engines, and of course anyt form of bridge ports would get you around 240~265 depending on engine and your ability to tune. a side port could be desrcibed as looking like a tear drop in side relief. maybe thats just his personal name for his style of porting. that said

side/street about 180~200

bridge/jbridge/ about 235-280

perry /monster bridge about 280-330

So,

Getting it ported/polished will reduce MPG? About how much does it cost to get it done (do they do they take it off too and what not?).

Thanks,
Eric

anything that gives more air flow into your engine needs more gas... so you get worse gas mileage... and if you go drastic for alot of power, you get alot worse gas mileage...

pretty simple

I think that's all done during the rebuild of a motor. Or if not, while getting a motor rebuilt, you can probably ask em to do that with little extra cost .. maybe. I think that ported and polishing is not too pricey. maybe $500 at the most.
