Targa FB???
Targa FB???
I was driving around earlier when I spot a CLEAN *** white FB at this shop on the side of the road. Well, after a few seconds of oogling over it, I notice that the lines seem to be broken up by shiny B-Pillars (i think thats still what they're called on an RX... the part that connects the roof to the rear???). I'm like WTF??? What jackass put that on an FB??? Well, I pass by it coming back and decide to pull in to get a better look. Turns out, its a targa top. WTF??? I had no idea that they made targa FB's!!! I thought they all came in coupe form. Any details on these? I think it may be for sale so I might try to get it.

A few were built in a greement with mazda but not by them. They were all modified and here is the info i gathered up.
Yea,Pacific Avatar did the conversions. The company was started by a Mazda dealer that thought the 1st gen would make a good vert.He built 126 of them until Mazda announced the 88 FC vert.So it was an aftermarket job none the less,so classical/antique value would probably be low.

It is an "ornamental" targa "band"; not functional. It is basically a brushed-aluminum trim "cap" that fits on the exterior of the roof sheet metal. It's not functional like a targa-top on the new JK Jeeps.
Okay, so you saw some shiny lines, they looked to be metal, and it said Targa?
Did you actually see the roof off and both windshields present? Or just the band that says targa?
That I know of I have only seen and witnessed a document stating one REAL targa 85 from back in the day. I could still contact the guy and get the VIN number to see where it is today. I do believe it was an aftermarket job done by Pacific Avatar, too. We seem to have a lot of stories here in Cleveland that I trace back to Pacific A. Another local RX7 guy had an FC with T-tops, too. Strange but true.
