Unless you put in a whole new sterio you need an origanl equipment deck to work with the rest of the system. The tape deck has special plugs on the back of it that are designed to work with the bailance of the system, and the rest of the system won't work with out the tape deck so ...
Try the for sale section, or ask if any one here has one used, or start trying the bone yards, but there is not an aftermarket one that woks with the bailance of the OE sterio
By the way the Sterio is the same in the '84-'85 GSLs and GSL-SEs

I have all the stereo components for an 81 GSL. I don't know if they work on an 84 but it has the stereo and separate tape deck along with the amp and speakers.

I don't think that the 81 and the 84 are compatable but I may be wrong.
John PM me, I think I have one laying around here somewhere. But first, how bad of a condition is yours? Did it just stop working? If it did pull out your tape deck and pull it apart, as in almost completely. Inside you will find a fuse, the old type glass looking ones, if it is blown replace it and see if it works. I did this to mine. Worth a shot instead of buying, and shipping, and waiting...
Let me know if that is it or not. Oh yea, be carefull pulling off your sterio surround, those things are expensive if you break them.

Tennis, anyone
I have one, but instead of being silver faced, it's black aand it's from a 2ed gen.
the exact same 'mazda' stereo in the 84 through 85, exact same plugs , exact same components, different colour face.. cheap !! works too.
