Taking all Considerations

Sooo does anyone have any good modifications for a 12A 1985 RX-7? I'll take all modifications in consideration. From the engine, to the exterior, to interior. I am also looking for exhaust mods or anything. Just list them all!!!

Here's what I went with, and I'm very happy:

Carb: www.sterlingmetalworks.com

Suspension: www.re-speed.com

Exhaust: www.racingbeat.com

That oughta keep you busy for a while, but check out my videos when you get a chance. This one is a good example of the performance of the car with these mods:

Blow-through turbo. It's a lot of work, but it's so worth it.

Stock S4/S5 turbo, 3" exhaust, intercooler if you want one. Webers are super easy to boost prep and tune, but Holley double-pumpers or even the stock Nikki work, too. I think I might have used a Holley if I hadn't already had a Weber, just because the carb hats are easy to find and relatively cheap.

NICE, sounds all good, I was looking at trying to get a 3in exhaust, but to get em u have to go custom. Would there be any other way to get a 3in exhaust; like any interchangeable parts/able to fit without small modifications? And yeah I got Nikki carb, what's low down on getting S4/S5 turbos....Any sites or so I can order?

Just remember, bigger is not better for rotary exhaust in NA applications. Its fine
for boosted ones like turbos or SC.

TII downpipes can fit with some massaging, I've heard (mine is custom).

I'll be posting my build thread soon, check it out if you want to see what's involved.

Since when does K = C in the English language? Did I miss that memo?

I'm shocked that no one replied with "Search...this has been covered a bajillion times"

$25 used leading coil pack from a 2nd gen.
Wire the positive on your stock coil to the positive on the coil and wire negative to negative, and drive the 2nd gen coil off of the first gen igniter. Cheaper version of semi-digital ignition with a more powerful and reliable spark than stock. My car felt overall smoother due to the better burn. Definitely worth the near nothing you pay for it.

Pain Pill? Psh. I'm just becoming one of the jaded old farts who wants people to help themselves.

1. Carb and exhaust will give you huge gains. Sterling Metal Works carb with a decent carb fuel pump, good regulator, high accuracy gauge (can be purchased via ReSpeed) and your carb needs are complete.

If you go with a RB exhaust system, don't go the exact route that Kentetsu went (I've seen you bitch about how you wish you went with the un-collected system numerous times). Get the Racing Beat SP exhaust (non-collected). Weighs a lot, but it's a robust system.

2. Suspension:

Get the ReSpeed full bushing kit and replace everything.

Replace all of your steering components, sans box, then hit up Kentetsu for a link to his "how to tighten your box" thread.

Save for ReSpeed out of the gate if you plan on auto crossing or tracking your car. The RB spring setup with Illumina struts is pretty good for a DD, but even on dry-rotted, 185/70R13 BFG All Season radials, I outdrove the RB spring setup w/ Illuminas in the front and Tokico HP's (blues) in the rear.

Disconnect your rear bar w/ the stock suspension. Trust me. After you upgrade your suspension, hook it back up. Once you're ready for an upgrade, go with ReSpeed for front and rear sway bars.

3. Brakes:

Hawk HPS pads.

Bleed your system.

Enjoy

4. Wheels and tires

Upgrade to 15" wheels to open up tire choices.

Remember: tires are your only contact with the road. spend accordingly. I just got a set of 205/50R15 Potenza RE-11's and love them. They do rub @ full lock or when the suspension compresses @ freeway speeds, but they're silent, grip like nobody's business (40mph around a 135* right hander...no drama...no squeal...no sliding...just stuck) and the ride quality is great.

5. Auto Cross the bitch.

Learn your car. Drive it hard in a safe environment. Your wallet and the local 5-0 will be happy.

How busy do you want to be? How much power do you want? What is the car used for? How deep are your pocket$?

If the answer is deep, stupid power, and track/street use, check out my thread in the non-technical section.

Besides that, not mentioned so far is upgrade to the GSL-SE brakes/wheel bolt pattern. I have mine just sitting around...

Well the car is mainly going to be used for street.... A couple races here and there with some amateurs.... Overall power I'd like it too be in the middle.... I got about 2k give or take, with some weekly income here and there... I'll probably upgrade too a lot of power; HP once my 12a dies or once I get a decent job. I'll engine swapp with a 13B or so, but that's later down the road.

^^^
You sure about that?
Car is a GSL-SE with a 12a? Perhaps it had the 13b swapped out?
Good Luck with your build

Yes, please explain the 12A in a GSL-SE? What wheel bolt pattern do you have (110x4 or 114.3x4), and how is there a 12A in it (all GSL-SEs came with a 13B)?

Is there a GSL-SE badge on it?

If you have a GSL-SE, then the modifications suggested will change from the above suggestions as most of the above suggestions have to do with carbs.
