Unhappy It takes a village...

Hello! I'm new to the posting site. I have an '85 SE that I bought in '94. It was stolen and chopped down to a shell 6 weeks later in NJ, but my brother and I found one in PA and put her back together again. My (now) ex-husband made me "sell" her in '97 when my son was born. I got rid of him in '01 and "bought" her back in '02. I'm sure that there are compression issues as she has sat for over 2 years. I live in the country, so bringing her out on the road to push and pop is going to be challenging, but not impossible. Someone thought that I could put the front wheels on a dolly, tow it, and try to bring it into 2nd. Sounds REALLY dangerous and a bit stupid if you ask me... My friend is a retired guilded Mazda mechanic. He recovered her a number of years ago when I stupidly started her, moved her 10 feet and turned her off. After a flat bed tow to his place and some windshield wiper concentrate, she started right up. I have an "organ donor" on blocks next to her. If I can get her running, I will have a spare 13b with manual transmission looking for a home.---rear and steering were already gone. ANYONE!!! HOW CAN I GET HER ON THE ROAD AGAIN??? I MISS HER!!! I also have an '87 626 and an '03 MPV. It looks like a Mada dealership here.... Any and all suggestions appreciated. I am outside of Charlottesville, VA.

At the top of the page is a search feature, do a search and you'll find a lot of threads on this subject.

Firstly put some MMO (marvel Mystery Oil) into the engine core and turn it over a few times manually.

Before you start her, drain the fuel (there is a drain plug beneath your tank), replace the fuel filter.

Change the oil and filter. Put in a fresh battery if the one in her doesn't work, check coolant and radiator, change coolant if it looks anything but green and clean.

Start her up....

Will blow loads of white smoke until MMO is gone, then change plugs and wires.

Check exhaust as she heats up, mice etc build nests inside them.

Is the clutch pedal OK

The organ donor has an engine and transmission that will need a new home. It had some pretty heavy rear damage-bent the axles. Otherwise it is in good shape for other donations. All of the steering components were taken when I got it-I had it flat towed to my place where I put it up on blocks.

I had put a kill switch in the cabinet behind the driver's seat after it was stolen the first time (the one I am trying to get back on the road). Other attempts were made to steal it and that little switch that disconnects the fuel pump saved her while my brother had it in NJ.

I am printing out the to-do list for fluids and such to get her going. I saw the identical car at the hospital where I work and HAD to leave a note begging them to contact me if they ever needed to get rid of it. My RX-7 is black with the burgandy interior. I have both the standard roof and the tinted moon roof. The seats need the leather re-done. I keep fantasizing about Overhaulin' coming and restoring her to stock. Chip??? Where ARE you???

Oh, and the body on my car is in pretty good shape. There is some fading on the hood and roof, but otherwise, no rust to speak of. I need to change out all of the rubber to the windows and such to prevent door rust.

Thanks for reminding me about the mice. It wouldn't hurt to try to follow as much of the wiring harness as possible to make sure there aren't any nibbled places.

My friend that is the retired Mazda mechanic needs 2 shoulder replacements (thus, why he is retired). I am only 5'6 and 130 lbs. Am I going to be able to manually turn the engine?

Well the first thing you can do to get your SE in top running repair is to vote for Hillary in '08. Then listen to these guy's advice, they know their ****.

Ray

PS. just read some of the replys, maybe they don't, some of them.

LOL Ray, nice way to back off....

There is a large nut on the front pulley of the car, you'll need a deep socket and a 1/2" ratchet, then after some fiddling to get the socket onto the nut you can turn the engine over from this location.
