Talking It Takes One To Kill One

Okay, so I was having a sleepless night last night due to exams today and I got to thinking this craziest idea.

If you *really* wanna beat a ricer, and you want to rub it in his face so nicely, what's the best way to do it?

Well... beat him with his own so to speak.

I propose: the CRX-7

I wanna take an '87 Honda Civic CRX, and find a way to put the fuel injected 13b out of a GSL-SE into it, turbo it, and make it run fast enough to beat the **** out of the other civic drivers around here

How crazy does one have to be to do this? I'm assuming I'm going to have a hell of a time fabricating engine mounts... plus I need a transmission that will match up with the engine... once the tranny's in, I need the propeller shaft and rear axel to fit. Plus I have to route exhaust, and some electrical....

Anyone think it could be done?

Jon

getting a FWD rotary would be pretty interesting...

Probably only take 20k to do it... :P

technically you could put any engine into any car, but in most cases it wouldn't be worth the money and time to make it all work. Take the money and effort into making a FB that will smoke the idiot.

Yeah, actually I hadn't realized that the CRX was a FWD... my bad.

And this is an "if I ever won th e lottery, I'd do this just for the reaction" scenario.

FWD rotary... that'd be tough... You'd have to rotate it 90 degrees and get a transaxle for it wouldn't you?

yeah, the engine sits in the bay sideways and the tranny is connected to the wheels on each side via two CV (constant velocity) shafts.... kinda like two mini drive shafts.

Call Jesse James at the Monster Garage and sell him the idea for the 13b CRX CRX Killer. I am sure it would be less complicated than the FC sand rail disaster.

It's already been done... There's a guy up in NJ running that exact setup.

I have heard of a 12a ford escort. To be honest a RWD crx with a 13b doesn't sound too bad, they only weight like 1900 lbs.

No way! Did you see what he did to that poor FC they tried to make some sort of sand buggy out of?! It was a sad death to an otherwise good -7

man, my '81 Prelude weighs 1650 lbs, so a CRX has gotta weigh less than that...

Hey why not just make it RWD? Just a little plasma cutting and welding right? But the live axel in, hook up the motor and BAM! RWD Rotary CRX Haha if only it were so easy.

But... you said beat them with their own... so to speak. Wouldn't that involve using a piston motor? Say... B18 into a CRX. It'd probably run 12s with traction.

Whatever... Someone post pics of that rotary CRX PLEASE

There is a rear wheel drive 13B turbo CRX in Aussie. running 8's. There is also a few 323 Mazda front drive 13B turbos... One is in Toronto.

I meant beat them with their own car... Make them think you're just another civic ricer... until you win and pop the hood.

"what did you to to make it THAT fast?"
"oh, I just took it's pistons out, that's all"

hehe

all wheel drive would rock if you could get it working... CRXes are definitely lighter than 1st gens.... My friend Jim has an 85 CRX and the thing's damn light. He puts it in neutral and I can push it just by leaning on it slightly.. or with one hand... two of us picked the rear end up and moved it sideways a few inches once

A friend of mine just bought an old CRX and he is putting in a turbo charged GS-R engine in it and putting in tha NAWS!. He is wanting to fix up the internals more and hoping to eek out 400-500 H.P.! I doubt it though. And if he could, he would have to put some huge slicks and extend the body just to maintain any control whats so ever. I know of a few guys that race the Pro Bugs. They run 9's but if the could go straight down the track they would probably run 8's. The CRX will have full roll cage and all that of course. It's strictly gonna be a drag car, I believe. LAter

There WAS a rotary powered FWD car by either NSU or someone else, I doubt it was Mazda. If it was Mazda, it was Japan only...

You don't have to transverse the engine just to make a car FWD... Look at a mid 90's Acura Legend or a Late 80's Subaru Loyale. FWD with a standard mounted engine.

Anyhow... What I was thinking was removing the drivetrain from my 4wd Civic wagon and putting it into an older CRX... Shorten the driveshaft, Sure the 89 Acura Integra engine bolts up, but with a simple adapter plate, a 12A or 13B will bolt up too...

Problem is, what is the rotation direction?

Oh i've thought about the CRX-7 plenty of times.

I would make it RWD of course, but i would put a single turbo 20b into it.

i would rice it all out too, only make fun of rice. like "Honda Ricing" stickers all over, "Moogen", "Conig", "Eyebock", **** like that. Ground effects, 18" rims, ricer muffler, the works.

It would actually look really cool, and be insanely fast (600+ hp in 1700 lb car? aw yea)

Don't forget the "noospeed" and "Type R" stickers. Type R for rotary? That could work.

Hondas spin backwards.

I'd like to do a rotary 323 or Fiat X1/9.
