Tail Light Conversion '79 to '83

Is it possible at all to do a tail light conversion from the '79 style to a '83 style? The old style just doesn't look as good as the darker and meaner look of the newer styles?

Are you ******* nuts??? If you are going to bastardize an SA22 then sell it and buy one of the newer 1st gens.... let someone else own and appreciate your car...

Anything is possible (taste is another matter, and as you can see, tastes run strong when cars start getting rare) with enough time, money, and effort, but I think you'll run into sheetmetal issues - - not 100% sure but I don't think it's a straight bolt-up.

Feel free to mail me your old taillights, though; I prefer the old style look.

I have both an SA and a FB.. The tail lights are not interchangeable. the openings and bolting assembly is different. Like Divin said, with money anything can be done...

You could, but it will involve cutting the rear panel out of a FB and cutting yours out to replace it. Sounds like alot of body work for a couple of tail lights.

you are right....sometimes I look at my FB and think it looks tough...then I look at my SA22 and it makes me smile.... You can't make an early first gen a ricer.... it is old school all the way and that is what makes it so cool....

The SA22's are more rare and will be the first to skyrocket in value....

Think about it this way.... imagine you were back in 1969 and you had a Yenko ZL1 Z-28 and you decided it would be cool to cut the fenders, jack up the rear, and change the tail lights to something else....

Fast forward to 2009 and your Yenko ZL-1 aluminum 427 big block Camaro is worth $400,000.... you would kinda feel like a ******** if you cut it all up back in the day....

Now the Yenko example is a little extreme compared to the value a SA22 will ever be, but you get the point...

Enjoy your car!!!

Does your car have the long RX-7 thing in the middle or are you wanting to add one??? I think those RX-7 thinggies in the middle look retarded... If you want to improve the looks, take that thing out and go back to stock..

yummy...the way yours needs to be....

really...if you want to fix what someone else did, it will cost some money... You will literally have to dig the bondo out and smooth it back out... then the butt-end will need to be repainted...

Maybe put that project on the back burner and fix more important things for now.... oh and man...take that "appendage" of a spoiler off when you finally fix the rear correctly...
