Question Synthetic Oil???

I was driving down the highway in my '84 gs, 5 spd, and the shifter got kinda hot after about 50 miles going 75-80 mph. I was just wondering if that red line synthetic oil will cool down the tranny and the diff. Or what other kinds have u all got and has worked pretty well in your cars?? Thanx
Kyle

I too can recommend Royal Purple.

Although anything will beat really old tranny oil, this stuff is a notch above the rest, espescialy dino oils.

Why Royal Purple? Have heard a bunch of folks say it’s great, but why is it great? What advantage does it have over other synthetics?

I’ve currently got Valvoline’s synthetic blend in the rear end and tranny, Going to put about 500 miles on that, then go to full synthetics, went with the blend to put some newer fluids in it to clean it out a bit more before I put the big money stuff in her.

Inquiring minds want to know.

Thanks,

Its just a lot smoother and supposedly from its claims also will give you better gas mileage due to one of its additives called Synerlec. I can also definately tell that it keeps the tranny cooler as after I switched over my shifter never got nearly as hot as it used to with the old dino oil.

JimmyHat go to : http://www.synerlec.com shows where you can get it local.

What weight oil are you guys running? Mazda's spec I believe was GL5 SAE 90.

What did ya’ll due to clean out the transmission and rear end? I’m going to run under the impression that until I put the Valvoline Synthetic Blend in it, that the fluid hadn’t been changed in 18 years. Have to imagine there is some crud in the cases.

Thanks,

After I bought my transmission used I just put in some Cheap Valvoline Gear oil (non synthetic $3 a bottle) put in 2 qts of the stuff ran it for 250miles. Than before I drained it all out I made sure the car was warmed up good so that all the oil will pour right out, after it all stopped coming out I let it drip for a few hours, cleaned off the drain plug, and filled it up with 2qts of the Royal Purple...

If your gonna do the rearend just do it the same way, but remember ALWAYS take out the fill plug first cause if u cant get that badboy out after its already drained... heh than your in for some fun times

Also it'll drain faster with the fill plug out. Big plus for people like me that do 10 things at one time...

Kool. Yeah the closest place is about 150 miles away. I'll probably just order it from racing beat. Well u think Valvoline is bad, I got some shitty petro tech 2000 walmart brand in mine!
