You guys, all but a fewof you, are missing my whole damn point!
Did any body say nice engine nice suspension? No I said, "Sweetest BODY KIT ever !" I am only talking abou the body! THere is no way i will throw a piston engine in my rex. I don't even know if ill put this one on but i think it looks pretty sewwt for LOOKS, that all I'm saying! I really like the hood scoop, front end, (which uses MAZA Miata headlights), and the fender flares. I think it looks a little better than the mariah motorsports wide body kit. Also no body seems to have any other kit posted thawt they seem to prefer more. You guys must like totally stock looking rx's. Well i figure if your going to mod the hell out of the engine why not modify the body to help increase performance further!

Cody, LMAO!!!
Gamble, it's taken in good fun and jest, based on the over-riding response of "thumbs-down" in the prior posts.
Zaridar, I will say that the body is unique. I do like better than the so many tacky bolted-on body kits that's out there. However, the Viper has already been on the market, we don't need a mini-Viper. The 1st gen is a sweet looking car on its own; turning a classic into a viper is kinda silly. Just as bad as the gomers who put viper kits on a camaro or vette chassis.

I notice that they sell fiberglass door skins without the indent as well. I wonder if that would be worthy weight saving, as I don't think that's just a door skin over top, That would be kind of stupid in my eyes.
Also fiberglass hoods that use the stock latches.

Got Boost?
I don't like the front-end, or the rear-end for that matter, but it does have some good points to it, that if I were going to throw a ton of money into custom body work I'd consider. For instance, The flares on the sides are well molded in, about the right width, and the door skins very well done. I like the way they rounded out the corner of the rear triangle windows. The small side skirts are tasteful. I like the tire fit in the rear wells, but the front wells don't match.... they are taller than the ones in the back, but if you could even this out....
Some of the things that make this kit a bit tacky for my taste include:
1. The attempted viper front-end using miata lights. Just dosen't fit the car, sorry. If he were to use the stock light locations, and convert it to a flush mount, then pull the entire front end back a good 4"-6" it would be much better. I'd probably also not do the center divider in the grill, but keeping it split top-to-bottom is unique. The bottom spoiler is too big as well.
2. The corvette rear end, and domestic 80's whale tail. Why be a posure when you already make you own statement? Keep the lights in the stock shape, or use the round light style from ealier RX's and I think It would look pretty good. That and ditch the flap-style wing, wrap-arounds look much better, and integrate it a bit more with the rear deck.

(1) A 1st gen has a Cd of .34, slightly lower with the right spoiler.
Anthing that increases the frontal area will be to the detriment of aerodynamics. The best thing you could do to mod the body is remove the windscreen wipers and rear vision mirrors to decrease Cd even further.
(2) Weight. That kit will increase weight of the car. End of story.
the only body mods I will consider doing is replacing the front guards and bonnet with fibreglass items, giving around a 30-40lb weight saving.
The only other body mods I could justify for performance are the following:
* Group-C style flares for added tyre width and track. Not on a street car though.
* Group-C whale-tale - increase down force at high speeds - does work. Not on a street car that spends most of it time below 60mph.
Thats it.

Of course I didnt build my car. Someone named Hector Rodriguez did, and it shows, with the pickup truck spoiler on back.
You should have seen it with the chrome wheel well molding, and the huge plastic louvers I used to have on there.

BTW, this is probably the 20th time that's been posted and it's still as ugly as it was the first time.

Well, I really don't think that car is sweet, in my opinion it's palin ugly. But of course that's all about taste. What I really don't like about this design is the way it mixes styles that don't match. The sidepipes just don't fit, for exemple. The car also looks weird as a complete design. The whole thing doesn't come together at all. This is an often mistake on body-kitted cars: the lines are screwed up. This is where the Mariah kit stands out: they do follow the lines of the car. Nevertheless, even that one is open to discussion.
What I really think is saying a lot about people is the way so many people seem to think a body kit increases performance... Do you want to go faster? Then you need to get rid of as much wheight as possible, not gain wheight with useless wings etc. You also need the most narrow wheels you can get away with in terms of grip. As long as they are wide enough to put the power on the tarmac, they're good. Any wider will cost more, perform less, get you worse milage, and increase unsprung wheight. When your car makes 150-180hp you do not need 275 section tires on 18 inch wheels! All you are doing is screwing up performance.
The same goes for the wing: as small as possible neccessary. You'll need downforce if you go fast, but there's no use in huge wings if your top speed is about 120mph. Most people hardly ever drive their cars fast enough to need extra downforce!

guys i think the best way to look at this is as a kit car... most if not all kit cars require a doner car, it just sux that the doner here is the fb that we all love. I am doing mods to mine but nothing to this extreme.
One thing we all need to remember is that everyone here is entitled to his or her own opinion, no matter how many times something has been posted. And don't just bash him for showing us something "cool" in his excitement and haste. So what if this car has been posted on multiple times, so has the damn purple porsche body kit. We have all, I am sure, at one point in time or another posted something we thought was cool, and that we thought the rest of the club would appreciate in haste. I know that not thinking of the possible concequences of a post in advance sux but stop ragging on the poor guy.
Its rediculous the way some are about the 7 or any other car for that reason. I mean I was reading the sale section the other day and some poor guy wanted to get into the 7 group and offered up an MR-2 for trade... the poor guy was bashed too and fro. I wouldn't blame him for not wanting anything to do with a 7 now. **** people will be people and it sux but when I own a car it is mine for my enjoyment and modification.
People constantly post what they have done and what they want to do, and many do this to help the rest of us. But if we shoot down ideas and imagination how the hell would we progress. **** if we did that to Jeff20b's ignition idea our cars would still be running yes but not nearly as nice as with his mods...
Sorry for the long post but lets not forget the reason we are here and that is to share ideas and experiences, not to shoot each other down.
-steps off the soap box and awaits possible lashings from the forum goers...-

np... people suck some times other times they just need a reminder of the reason we are here and that is to learn from one another.
As for the kit the rear fender flares are ideal for my project, not the rear tails or lights as I am partial to the stock lamps. I'm sure you saw my post on my wing... the one that starts out
"gonna get flamed again oh yeah I'm gonna get flamed again"
Toss your $.02 in...
