swapping out to a 12a 6-port

Got ahold of a 12a 6-port that has been rebuilt. Not sure of the miles since the rebuild, but it's a good dry engine and the person I bought it from said it ran good and strong and there was no smoke at all. Don't know much about the 6-port 12a, other than they are hard to find. Have been told they help with performance in the high end. Maybe someone can help me out with what to expect. I am putting it into an 85 GS with LSD rear, 5-speed. I also got ahold of the guy in Arkansas that had the 85 GS with the blown engine for sale for $300. After he emailed me pics I jumped on it. The body is rust free with a good repaint and the interior is excellent. New tires, brakes and wheel seals and alternator. He blew a rad hose, got it hot and since then it uses some coolant. It doesn't smoke at all on startup or while running. I don't think he blew any apex seals, but does anyone have an idea what might be? I have a spare engine I'm going to use in it, but thought this one would be a good motor for rebuild.
Thanks.

well, start with an exhaust. the exhaust will need to have a backpressure tube in one of the presilencers. you can probably aquire one from racing beat. if fact, i would go with the dual pipe sysyem they offer and see if the presilencer with tube from the SE will bolt into the system. you are going to need the pressure to make the 6PI actuators work. its basically the same syatem used in the GSL-SE, only in 12A form.

they made them in 81 and did not export to the U.S. they were rated at 130hp and 119lbft torque. the engine was not seen until the 82 model year though.

exhaust`

Right now I have a RB header with single collector with a small resinator and a magnaflow muffler. Do yo think this setup will work OK or do I need to get the presilencer?

rats nest removel on the 6-port

I have a good Nikki that I rebuilt that does a good job. I was planning on removing the rats nest as that is what I had done on my other motor. This shouldn't mess up the performance of the 6-port should it. The blocking plates should all be the same shouldn't they?
