Surge tank vs. Fuel cell
I'm debating using a surge tank for my blow through 12a. But with the addition of a second fuel pump fittings and all the hassle associated with constructing then mounting the surge unit. Would it not be more economical in both time and money to have a fuel cell installed already with a baffle? I would guess this would be a custom job, because I'd doubt there are many that would fit out of the box.
Anyone gone this route, or have any experience as far as the draw backs.

I recently modified my FB fuel tank to accept a more common high pressure IN TANK fuel pump from a second gen gas tank. It was a bit of a trick to get it to work and fit with the positive wire from grounding out on the tank, but I made a "baffle" that clamped to the fuel pump itself. Granted, its not that big as a standard SE baffle, but once the fuel pump portion of the pump was in the tank, I pulled outward on the baffle I made from sheet aluminum so that it would surround the back 1/2 of the fuel pump to reduce the sloshing problem 12a tanks suffer from. I should make a thread about this actually. I got mine used from someone for 5 bucks actually.
I'm using a GSL-SE tank, which has a small reservoir built in. I considered a fuel cell, but didn't want to spend the extra money or cut up my car at that time. I use the car for track days, so fuel slosh is a big concern. I figure I'll run it, starve my engine, blow it up, then come back later with the fuel cell I should have installed to begin with and a rebuilt motor.

I used the 2nd gen pump assembly and the baffle also from a second gen.
1st use jig saw to cut 2nd gen tank out (area where the fuel pump goes in, cut as large an area as possible so that you can weld it to the top of the 1st gen tank. then just drill out the 3 spot welds holding the baffle in the 2nd gen,
go to highest part of tank on 1st gen, cut out, stick baffle in tank, tack weld down, then weld or braze the 2nd gen top of tank ointo the 1st gen tank, presto 2nd gen in tank pump with baffle.

Surge tank is easier, you will never run out of petrol even with a 1-1.5litre surge tank. You can use your stock pump to feed the surge tank then perhaps a carter or similar to feed the fuel lines to the carb. There's a workshop called MRE over here that makes such an item specifically for 1st gen Rx7. It is simply welded or pop riveted to the chassis just in front of the diff.
Im going to swap out the 12a for something fuel injected here in the next couple of weeks. This is something I need to figure out also. I was thinking of blocking off the intank fuel pump and welding a sump kit (from summit racing) to the bottom of the tank and then running new an- fittings to the motor. Problem is, this doesnt give me a baffle of any type to prevent slosh.
