It's the simple things right? My FB sunroof has rattled in the same way over bumps for years. The FB I had in '86 sounded exactly the same as my current FB.
The front clips are loose in their sockets and can move up/down and they both have enough fudge to allow the panel to slide left/right in the sockets. Also the clamp plate has a bit of wiggle in its interface to the riser. It probably bothered me more that it should have, but man it's so nice now that it's quiet...I can hear all of the other weird sounds.
1. I added a layer of foam between the clamping surface and riser.
2. This looks pretty rough but gets the job done...a thin strip of foam double stick tape applied to the inner edge of the tab, then a bit of heat shrink tube (big stuff I had happened to have) over that to keep it in place. I did this to each tab, foam on the inner edge only for each tab. The foam keeps the panel from sliding left right. And it just happened to be that the heat shrink's thickness keeps the tab moving up and down (click/bonk sound) in the socket.
The coating on the tabs like to peel off and this can cause movement in the sunroof. Combine that with play in the latch mechanism and your sunroof if sure to rattle. I think your fix was a cost effective solution that will be able to help quite a few people!
