sun roof screw mech

I don't know what this is called so my search was not productive.

I seem to have pulled the sun roof opener screw mechanism out while it was still attached to the roof. The little toothed brass thing in the middle wont stay tight in the plastic anymore. You would think 27 year plastic would last forever. Are there tricks and tips to fix this? After market parts? SC

I may have read this or dreamed it. IS there a market for the Catelic converter I cut from my Rx7. I saved it for some reason?

Can I clean it with solvent or something. Its real heavy so I figure its full of carbon or rust. Sc

you can repair the unit with some plastic weld. its a two part epoxy specially made for plastic. coat the outside diameter of the brass lug in the epoxy and insert it back into its hole. wait a few mins and it should set up nicely. any good quality two part epoxy should work. there's not much torque required for the latch screws.

the converters are worth some cash. there's a guy here on the forum who buys them up.

I had to fix the sunroof "screw" as well on my 82 and the method mazdaverx713b talks about will work fine. I used a standard 2 part epoxy that is compatible with both brass and plastic. Plastic weld won't stick too well to any metals in my experience, so a general epoxy is probably the best thing. Don't cheap out though, get some good stuff for a long lasting fix.

As for the cat converter, they have value to people that break them down for the precious metals they contain, or someone in an area that needs to maintain emission compliance on their RX-7.
