THAT SUCKS(its a book)

ok im a student at UTI, a tech school, and im in to learn piant and body.

today i walk out and see a fb parked in teacher parking, it looked kinda ratty, no emblems, old copperish brown color, and the hatch area is kinda stripped out(so is mine, radio intall), anyway i headed out the parking lot and he is 2 cars back. as we reach the only stop sign on the road, he goes around the car behind me and pulls up next to me. there is a driver, passenger, and a dude in the hatch area leaning forward. i look, he looks and were off!!!!!!!!!
at the very beg, he had the jump on me by about a fender length, as we accelerated and shifted(in unisen), we left identical scratches from stop to 1st and from 1st to 2nd. the entier time, he is steadly walking away, going into 3rd my bumper was even with the back of his door. i slowed(bec. of traffic) and let him go by.

I know that im having some (carb?) poblems, with studdering during full acceleration after 2nd gear.(have kit and buddy ready to rbld tonight.)

but.....

a stock 12a in perfect oem trim should make 100hp right?

so how much of a power gain would be seen from the removal of the... airpump, cat, and rats nest

are there any secrets to getting a lil more from a stock car and a broke pocketbook?

it just really sucks, there are a lot of guys at the school and reputations are easily shot.

if anything is spelled wrong, i apologise, not an english major.

Not all that much. Buy a header if you want power increases.

If the cats are 20 years old i'm sure they're burnt out by now, the others are just to clean up the engine bay basically. With a header the acv has to be blocked off and airpump removed because of cat removal, obviously the same applies if you just remove the cats.

ACV is the air control valve attached to the lower intake manifold and has passages to the exhaust for emissions, the airpump pumps air into this device.. There is much power to gain from a header and removed cats, i'd estimate atleast 15hp.

get a header..... best bet...... run open header

but... all that emmissions **** just yank off......... or get a high flow cat, and keep it all, and just install a header infront of the cat converter.....then send your carb to Sterling, or RX7CARL on this forum... they rebuild it, and make it flow ALOT more........ like more than 465 (holley setup) they can also port your intake...

but yeah... poor boy mods are adjust your timing to yaw specs, mechanical secondaries, ap mod (depends on carb year though... ask sterling) and better flowing air filter/housing.... aka cut the crap out of the side of the housing....

where in texas are ya?

hit me up on aim if ya would, its in my signature....

laters, andrew..

If you are still confused about the ACV, it is located right above the exhaust manifold. It is oddly shaped, has a wire comming from it, and is held on by three nuts. You can make a block-off plate by tracing the ACV (once its removed) onto an aluminium plate and cutting it out. I spread gasket sealer on the back of mine and put the plate were the ACV was. You will need many washers to get the plate to stay on.

Removing the ACV fixed my idle problem. My car was idleing very erratic. I found the ACV to be stuck open.
