Subwoofer enclosure update...

I decided to make some serious adjustments to the enclosure, mostly for ease of construction, ease of shipping, and it gains a little airspace.

It is now two enclosures instead of one, and is going to be constructed of MDF and fiberglass. I changed the location for the speaker terminals, and will be including long bolts for you guys so that you can bolt one enclosure to the other through the piece that holds the hatch release for theft security. In other words, the only way somebody can steal it is to remove the subs and unbolt one from the other. Most thieves don't have that kind of time, so I think it's a worthy addition. I threw out Version 3.0 today, and got most of the subframe for version 4.0 done earlier.

Unfortunately, we had a lightning storm which knocked out power here for several hours, so the first finished product pics will be up tomorrow evening.

I have one spot left at $200, maybe two spots because somebody was supposedly mailing me a deposit, but it isn't here yet. The rest of you guys, start getting your nickels and dimes rolled up, because I'm hoping to start shipping by the end of the week. If any of you want to pay the rest of your fee now, feel free. I'm assuming shipping will be around $50.

BTW, I'm pretty sure I can do a pair of 8's in each side if anybody wants to try that.

Did you say a pair of 8's on each side for a toatal of 4? Wow, that sounds nice! I would buy, but no need. Good job!

Yeah, I am almost positive I can go with 4 8's total... I think that's what I'll end up running in mine.

I haven't kept up on this, so mabey you could fill me in a little. What kinda cubic footage are we talking about in this box? quad 8" woofers should do great for a nice punchy bass drum, but IMO, unless the box is big enough, it won't have much for low frequencies. Just trying to figure out where your going with this.

I have two enclosures designed which are right around 1 cu ft each and are totally hidden in the back of the hatch. That should be plenty big enough for two 8s.

Wait, so it is one enclosure on each side of the hatch. If so, would it be possible to just get the driver side one so I don't need to take out the jack? Would it work with a spare tire? I am guessing that the pictures will answer all of my questions but I figured I would ask. Thanks.

Yep, I can do just one, and yep it will work with a spare.

if I'am correct he ($100t2) cant fit a 12" so the 10' is what you'll have to go with, and I read in the other thread that he will be willing to sell one sides like you wish

The only way I could do a 12 is to have it stick out into the hatch area a bit, probably about 3 inches... Of course, that's still better than having it take up your whole hatch. I'd have to custom engineer that.

Price for a single 10" enclosure will be $140 + shipping. Price for a 12" that sticks out into the hatch 3 inches or so, will be $175 + shipping. Why more expensive? Because I'll have to start from scratch on it.

In the middle of it. We lost power on Sunday during the storm, and yesterday I was out all day, so there was zero progress.

I had one person bail on this, so there are two spots left at the initial price of $200 + shipping... Which is really $250 shipped.

Fiberglassing should resume this week, weather permitting.

There's no way in hell you can mount an amp on the boxes... There's just no space.

I am interested but would like to see the final product.
I have 8" and 10" speakers sitting here in boxes waiting with brand new amps as well.

Working on them as we speak, my friend. I have refined the design multiple times, mostly due to taillight interference and the fact that I want you guys to have the best looking and performing product possible.

Unfortunately, I'm a perfectionist when it comes to my 7, and that perfection takes time.
