The same bottle is on 2nd gens. They have a Tech Service Bulliten that says to remove it.
Most of the time it's non functional.
It was used to inject a high concentration of Antifreeze into the carb to prevent it from freezing up and from ice collecting on the intake and in the engine on startup in literally sub zero weather... If it doesn't get below zero where you live, you shouldn't need it.

it doesn't affect anything at all beside maybe the ease to start the car up a little during winter time ... but whats wrong with the water freezing in there? i thought colder air means more power

It involves one long tube, one drill, one unhealthy disrespect for the law, four twinkies (three won't work), roughly thirteen hours of Stripes (Murray at his best) preferably on a black and white 11 inch TV, and about 35 hours of "what did I cut?". Repeat as nec.

Notice how his car is also missing a charcoal canister (About the size of a coffee can, all black, has two or three tubes on top, located near the right strut tower.) On 1979 and 1980 cars, and perhaps Series 2 as well, the charcoal canister was integrated with the air cleaner lid.
Sorry for posting over a month later but I live in Canada, and most winters get pretty cold.. are you all saying, even with this bottle and antifreeze hooked up it does absolutely nothing to help the engine start? Why would Mazda put it in?
mazda put them there to help the apex seals...kinda like a motor defroster.. the sub-0 will imporve motor life.. and should be used any where the temp gets to 32deg or less..... that being said i jurked mine off a long long time ago...
