Angry stupid oxygen sensor...

Ok, how did you guys get the stupid thing out? There's not alot of room down there. Did you get it from underneath? I really would like to get the new o2 sensor on there in hopes of improving my gas milage (more than 15mph highway would be great). Any help with this would be great.

Thanks!
matt

Lightbulb Here it is

1.) Get large wrench, 3/4's or 22mm, with a closed end.
2.) Unplug o2 wire and slip closed end of wrench over wire down to the nut so that the open end of the wrench is facing down out underneath the bottom of the car, behind the front wheel.
3.) Get on the ground and use your foot or push the wrench really hard toward the front of the car to loosen the o2 sensor.
4.) Installation is the opposite of removal :p

*This was done in 15 minutes or less without car jacked up.
**Lowered cars may require you jacking up the front of the car a bit to gain access to the wrench to turn it.

Good Luck.

cool, hopefully I'll get some time before work tomorrow to try that. With any luck I'll have the thing on by my next tank of gas so I can see if it helps at all.

(245miles / tank now...trip is at 112miles or so and I'm just over 1/2 a tank)

I did it a little differently, but it worked. I used a good-ole craftsman wrench, open on one end, closed on the other. I put the open end over the O2 sensor, and stuck the end of the long *** breaker bar on the other, and whacked it w/ a hammer... real technical, but it came right out. From the top BTW. good luck

I got it from underneath the car with the closed end portion of the wrench on the O2 sensor. Had also given it a squirt penetrating oil to break up the rust. Then did the old wrench on a wrench trick for extra leverage.

Then just about the point where I got too, “you GD MF SOB”, she broke loose.

I just borrowed an oxygen sensor removal tool from Autozone. It's free. I haven't yet used the damn thing, that's tomorrow, but it should work. Basically it's an oversized socket designed to slip over the sensor and wire. I'll let you know how it goes.

Right on.
