stupid governor

Doesn't exist! should have searched prior to typing, durr. (unless there's somehow an aftermarket one.)

but now that I've researched, i guess I have a problem! cant seem to get over 70, wont do more than 3200 rpm's in 5th gear. what should I look for? doesn't seem to be starving for fuel, so i don't know.

Clogged cats and fuel filter come to mind.

clogged cat's

see if from the header to the cat is glowing after you drive at your max for a little

if it looks like the glow stops right at the cat then it could be clogged

I'll check, but the whole exhaust system is under 2 months old. I am going to remove the smog pump since i don't have to DEQ / smog the thing. Getting someone to remove the cat is going to be a little tough, though. I worked with an exhaust guy and he wont remove them unless he replaces them....

I didn't even think of the fuel filter.

saws all and a pipe to fit between if you need to take it to a welder they are not under laws like auto shops.

they can't legally remove a cat and not put one, but if say you remove it and drive to the shop, they can put in a piece of tubing

If I'm lucky, the cat will be a bolt to pipe on each end, and i can have a guy i used to work with weld me a pipe to fit, since he runs an exhaust shop. or i could just cut it, yes. i think my secondaries on the carb aren't opening correctly, and i'm pretty sure I'm running really lean right now. tomorrow morning i'm going to adjust the carb, check fuel filters and then begin the smog removal.

try tying the secondaries up to open mechanically instead of by vac. ( I assume your cars a carb model?)

they are tied open, but i assume they aren't done right. when you say "open" are you saying the little flaps down there in the carb will be open? because i was messing with the carb trying to figure out what the PO did, and they're tied together, but maybe not right. while it was idling i was messing with them - and i can move them by hand and open them, but then the engine tries to die, lol. sounds like a MASSIVE vaccuum leak and then the idle tries to jump, and then dies. if i open them slowly, the rpm raises.
