stuipd question in need of answer

Alright I have kind've a dumb question but I'd thought i'd ask anyways. Well the other day i was just cruising around with my friend and we were on some country roads and came upto a stop sign and for some reason I just felt like peeling out yeah whatever so I reved it up to about 3 or 4k in 1st and laid some rubber then my friend freaked out and told me that I shouldn't do that anymore or i will have to have a transmission rebuild. He said he would've never had to have his transmission on his car rebuilt if he hadn't peeled out . Anyways give me some clarification.

Well what the hell. I have always had fun in all my other cars i've had and never had any problems. How high did you rev it before you started to go to dump your whole tranny?

about the same.remember cars are meant to be driven a certain way. and every time you peel out you are placing extra stress on those parts. they may not break the first time or even the hundreth time but eventualy they will.

Burnouts/peeling out are forms of abuse... abuse causes things to break or abnormal wear and tear...

Even if you grandma the car, you might have to swap the trans at some point... my advice is to have fun, but don't overdo anything... Personally, I'm more worried about getting a ticket over blowing up my trans in a stock car.

tranny training

Rotary Engine cars were built with the sports man, (person), in mind. The trannys will take any abuse you give them. Believe you me, I have use and abuse just about any RX I have own, (over twenty), and have never broken a transmission.
On the other side of the coin, do keep in mind that mechanical things will brake down after time.
Do like I do, keep a couple of spare trannys laying around

Smoking the tires and donuts arejust some of the fun things you can do. I say burn the tires of the rims, brake it, and fix it make it better allwhile getting to know your monster. Have fun and remember its always " time to make the donuts ".

dude, don't worry about the tranny. yeah they are 20+ years old. with probably over 100,000 miles on them. but i've dumped, ripped, grinded, and peeled my trannies many many many times. they seemed to last. except for my last 80. it had well over 200,000 on the tranny. it finaly gave out on me. but then again i'm putting 200+ with the nitrous to it. they wern't made for that much. yet it don't stop me. i put another used one in with 160,000 on it and keep doing the same thing. so live for the D O U G H N U T S ! ! !

YOu'll have a hard time killing these trannies. They're bulletproof.

From what it seems, you will have the rear end go out before the tranny does. At least a one legger, have heard that the LSD's seem to last quite a bit longer. The weakest point will go first, and it seems that the rear end is that weak spot.

Your friend sounds like me. Back in high school I had a buddy that would do things of that nature when I rode with him and it drove me nuts. I just prefer to drive within the boundaries you could say and not make more work for me down the road.

I had a tranny in my 85 GSL blow before the LSD rear end, lol. You can still used 2nd on up if you push hard engough though, lol. I was impressed it died in all honesty, Ive heard theyre pretty stout when you dont have anything too heavily modded, and my car was all stock. It was giving me trouble shifting into 2nd everynow and then for about 3 years before I blew it though too, lol. It also had almost 300,000 miles on it

~T.J.

PS - If anyone local wants an 85 GSL for parts or something with a spare working tranny, PM me
