Stuck Distributor

Has anyone ever had a problem moving the distributor? Mine is stuck or seized up , I loosened up the hold down clamp bolt and cant move it to adjust the timming I used several penetranting solvents let it set but it still won't budge. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Hmm, let it soak in some penetrating oil for a bit. Then GENTLY tap on it with the handle of a screwdriver of something similar. Just be careful with it.

well get a vibrating wrench thing, usually used for breaking bolts loose, put a 1/4 socket and a phillips tip on it, tap end with hammer and twist, should break looose. just dont hit it too hard or bad things will come.

Just had this problem myself. You probably have some rust/oxidation between the distrib. and the engine housing preventing it from turning even though you have the lock nut loosened. I had to get under the car and use about a 2 ft piece of 1/2 inch rebar to drive the distrib. up out of the engine. Be careful and gently as possible tap it out. Try not to damage the dist. and make sure you have the rebar or whatever you use on a solid section of the dist. Once you have it out clean and lube it before you re-install it.

good luck

ahh, well i got it out yeterday! it was stuck like a bitch.

i used a small but heavy mallet, and i knocked it on the underside but from left to right over and over. after about 10 times it started lifting up. pulled it out and found it was all coroded.. so i cleaned it up, smothered both the dizzy and front cover hole in grease and put it back in, spins so easy now its perfect!!
