streetport/bridge port for 16 year old

my mechanic has a secret (i think) way. he'd be street porting my engine, and lests just say, kind of bridge porting it. maybe about a half bridge port. with my modifications listed, what gas mileage might we be talking? are there added problem occurances with a port job?

My understanding is, a half-bridge is street porting the primary/secondary ports, and bridge porting the non-street ported ports....could be bridged primarys and streeted secondarys or vis versa.

As far as gas mileage, I would expect it to go down, but I don't really know by how much, someone else will problay be able to give you a better estimate.

Also, I would guess the engine would be less reliable with any sort of porting, but again, someone else should be able to give you a better answer then myself.

With such a vague description there's really no way to know until you do it. BIG HONKING bridgies can get like 8mpg, stock cars get double that.... So the only safe thing you can say is that you'll be somewhere between 10-20mpg. Not a great help, I know, but the vagueness of my answer comes from the vagueness of detail about this "secret" way of doing things.

Tip from Jon #1: If a mechanic says he knows a "secret" way and doesn't discuss the details, it's probably because he's full of crap and is talking out his ***... it's only a "secret" because he doesn't quite know how he's gonna do it yet!

stock cars only get 16mpg?

wow, something must be wrong with mine, I get about 28-30 hwy and around 18-20 in town..

with a half bridge you can probably expect gas milage to be in the 14-16mpg range in town and 20-25 TOPS on the highway.

of course, as with anything, it REALLY depends on how you drive it.

My car gets about 18-20mpg if I drive the speed limit and don't really push it, but when I -drive- it, I probably get about 10-14mpg. I can actually stand on gas, watch the gauge go down, and then, when I let off it slowly goes back up some. Heh.

I'd like to know how your mechanic plans to bridge port a 6port motor. I don't think I've seen it done on here before.

Bridge ported engines don't last. They are basically race engines,....with a high rpm power band they are a bitch on the street. Not to say people don't do it but you need a GOOD clutch that can take the slipage abuse.

Honestly I would go with a large street port on a 4 port block from a well known rotary specialist. Being 16, 200hp is plenty for a car so light....you would be in the 13's.

Good luck
