Strange Electrical problems.

OK as most of you know my car was broken into about 3 weeks ago. Radio and speakers were stolen.

Well since those bastards broke into my car I have been having a few wierd electrical problems.

1; Clock onthe dash.

Whenever you open the door the clock shuts off and resets to 1:00. Close it and it works fine, as long as you keep the doors shut.

2: Headlight dinger

Normaly when you shut the car off and open the door with the headlights on they make a dinger sound.
Well since all this bullshit sarted the dinger dosent work (left my headlights on twice and had to push start my car)

Also when they broke into my car rather than flip the little switch to turn off the dome light they broke it with a screwdriver. could this be part of the problem??

Has anyone else had problems like this, and if so were do I start to look??

Thanks for any help!!

Disclaimer: While I am self-described as "electrically dyslexic", I have dealt with similiar issues before. I once shorted out my stereo by accidentally cutting into a live wire to a dome light.

Replace all related fuses. Not visually inspect, replace because sometimes they look fine but have tiny faults. After my domelight oops I went without a stereo for a month because of this.

Did you or a shop replace the stolen stereo, or are there loose wires hanging? That can cause all kinds of craziness. This also happened to me, after I got the stereo fixed it got stolen. Then while driving sparks came out of the hole and I lost dashlights etc.

The fact that the clock is now linked to the door (gotta hand it to ya, its a first in my book) must mean that when the plunger in your doorframe is released power or ground is interupted to the clock. Check the domelight for damaged wires touching each other or metal.

Good luck!

No I havent done anything with the wires that went to the stereo other than wrap them in electrical tape to prevent any shorting.

I will check the fuses and see if there is anything wrong there.

Thanks for the help. If anyone else has any ideas let me know, it would be more than appreciated!!

I had the same problem with the clock. It has to do with the wiring for the radio. Also, if there is a short in the dome light circuit, it will reset the clock. Happened to me too.

I'm not sure about that dinger. I never knew the car dinged when the headlights were left on. I should try this..

What's weird is that the "ding" sounds like it's coming from a bell, rather than a piezo speaker.

Neither my Headlight On warning dinger, nor my coolant low dinger has ever worked... Supposedly it's also supposed to cmoe on at low oil level or pressure...

I was unaware that it existed until after I wrecked my car when I saw on the other forum. ( www.mazspeed.com ) ... The Dome light, radio memory backup, and clock are all on one fuse called "Hazzard", at least they are in my 1985... I think... It's been a while since I've been in her all my manuals are at home... I'll check my schematics later for ya... I think it has to do with ripped stereo wires and the dome light switch being broken...
