Strange Electrical Problem??

Gentlemen,

I have stated what the car is many times so I will be brief this time. 1983 12A,

Problem has been missing at any steady RPM, particularly at 2500 cruise range.

What has been done to date: Cleaned & refurished the fuel tank and system, replaced corroded carb with another earlier unit. Replaced ignition wiring, plugs w/ NKG, Swapped Rotor cap form the 84 parts car, Coils test within proper range.

Results: runs much better, accelerates well, lots of power, smoother ect. But still misses at the 2000 through 3000 RPM range, runs great when accelerating.

Latest Problem
A few days ago, after replacing the carb, I try to start the engine and it fires and then all the electrical power went off. I mean 100%, nothing!! I check the battery and it is low. I top it off using distilled H2O, recharge, it comes up fine, checked using a hydrometer?? Can't remember the name of the devise.

So last night, I am running around the test track, that is a field in back of the house, for about 20 min, the lights are on and when I park in my shop (read shed) the engine dies and all the electronics go dead again, 100%.

I check the battery, it is fine, I check connections, I see nothing that is loose. At this point I have to go to bed, it is 10:00 pm and I have to go work early. Next day, when I get home, I go check on the car. Everything is working fine. There must be a heat sensitive electrical devise that is breaking down. Have any of you had a problem with the fuseable link?? It seams to me this is where the problem has to be. There are no bad fuses under the dash. Maybe this is the source of my engine missing problem.

All thoughts are appreciated.

Best regards,
THC

It's possible to replace the fusible links with a fuse block from a late 80's Rx-7 or Miata.

It DEFINATELY Sounds like a Fusible Link problem. Probably the Main one.

Fusible Link Upgrade HERE (from the Archive)
