Question 'Stock' Pulley Options...

Well, I was poking around in another thread trying to figure out what kind of aluminum pulley options were out there for those folks who wanted the anodized bling but needed or wanted to keep all of their factory accessories driven at the same speed or only slightly less so.

There is, in fact, NO alternatives it would seem for our beloved 12As...

Here's what I did instead...I had a local company powdercoat my full set of pulleys and I wanted to get some input on what everyone thinks of them....and to also ask if anyone out there would be interested in seeing raw aluminum pulleys made in an almost stock diameter fashion to include the WP, 'crank', alternator and air pump pieces

Bad pic of the full set...smoothness of finish isn't obvious at all here...the edges ARE NOT rough, it's the resolution...

Indoor shot for better detail...

let me have it......I'll check from work tomorrow.

lol, GO MAVS, I see the jersey. I don't think the coating will wear off, b/c i believe it becomes "bonded" to the metal. I may be wrong tho.

You are entirely correct...it will not come off....I'll find out on a rainy day if the co-efficient of friction has changed enough to cause belt slippage on such days...could be a while since we just got past our rainy season here in the Metroplex. Now, it's time for the charred earth Summer...

I powdercoat my own stuff, pulleys are one of the first things I do. The coating doesn't really wear, but many of them will begin to soften above 250*. I've found that this can sometimes reduce belt slippage.

Just out of morbid curiousity, what would you have charged to do the full set above in the metallic "Pontiac" blue as seen?

If I have the powder on hand, and the pulleys are not full of rust on the backsides, 40-50, plus shipping.

I am having this done, except in a color that is similiar to the exterior color of my car. I was wondering if the glossy finish would affect the belts. So I bought a spare set just in case, I suppose I wont be needing them...

Just woundering, but why would one not want to underdrive the accs. I have installed the underdrive set from RB, I like it.

If you've got a serious stereo system or electric fans, you need the alternator working almost all the time. An underdrive in that situation will basically not charge your system while idling at a light and for some RPMs above idle. Your battery is draining in that situation and a serious sound system will definitely take a performance hit in the bass while sitting at a light since you'll be at 12 volts and dropping. I didn't realize RB had a pulley for the air pump so all of the pulleys would match. Care to post a pic of your set-up

The V grooves themselves had a bit of rust, but the pulleys themselves were coated with Martin Senour Pontiac Metallic Blue and clear-coated. They had to strip all of that stuff off before powder coating.

So how much for that?

I have no air pump. The racing beat pully is a two piece one on the alt. and crank. I have the two belt system. http://www.racingbeat.com/FRmazda1.htm

As I thought...this does not help the target audience I'm trying to reach with this thread. Like I said, apparently nothing is made for the 12A rotary for "for those folks who wanted the anodized bling but needed or wanted to keep all of their factory accessories driven at the same speed or only slightly less so.", as stated in the beginning. Any support or link MUST include all four pulleys to wit...
  • The main outer pulley but not the actual eccentric, one bolt, hub...
  • The water pump pulley
  • The alternator pulley
  • The air pump pulley

Soooo.....is there any interest out there for this idea? ...Despite having my own stock pulleys powder-coated, I'm still in the position of making this happen for a set of aluminum pulleys to consist of a STOCK diameter eccentric, STOCK diameter air pump, STOCK diameter water pump and slightly-smaller-than-stock-diameter alternator pulley.

Bump for a forgotten idea....or maybe y'all were trying to tell me something by letting this thread die...

your hands are very feminine looking....nice job mar3 on taking care of your self LOL....But back to the thread... i think they look very good. If you can actually make this and sell them i would be very interested. How much are we looking at? Aluminum ftw!

She is my "hands" model...the better shots are of a convertible bolt I need for my vertBird where we're a little closer to curves for the shot, if you get my dorifto....

The above shots are the powder-coated pulleys...trochoid looks like the man for that job...my set seen above cost me $40 which is in line with trochoid's price.

On the aluminum pulleys, I'm just trying to see if there is interest out there for "stock" replacements, no trick of the week stuff.

If it's just me and you, there's no business case for my fabricating buddy. We'd get killed on the price for just two sets of pulleys that literally is a "from-scratch" fabrication proposition...
