I'll be back in the garage in the morning i pulled the lead coil wire and started it the other day - had the same old symptoms _ no Idle below 2000rpm and rough above - per suggestions I got a new ignitor (minor correction - forum said $200 at dealor but it was $340) got it used but tested off ebay -$22 plus ship. Put in this morning and .... same idle problem.I even tried both ignitors because I wasn't sure which was leading/trailing. In the morning I plan to use carb cleaner to see if I can get it to idle- hoping that will indicate whether problem is electrical or fuel, I guess i could have gotten a bad ignitor. but I would appreciate any other suggestions. I will be spending the next couple hours reading old threads etc. but will be checking messages in the am.
thanks for everyones help.

Same issuse added info - frusterated
I really have looked everywhere for vac leak- even used a mirror to inspect gaskets at base of carb and intake (as best i could) nothing obvious - shutter valve openings well sealed with caps. THe car really doesn't run any differettly with either coil wire removed - however coils act differently- trailing arcs steadily to engin body when removed, leading coil doesn't -double checked wires(ignition wires replaced) Leading plug bottom trailing top #1 toward front. Doesn't want to Idle even when using carb cleaner-just doesn't sound right- an other quick checks for Ignition? would a bad leading coil cause these symptoms( no Idle at all- rough running unless you bury throttle) Thanks again
If, by looking, you mean simply a visual inspection with your eyes and hands, then I can guarantee you will never find the vacuum leak. Get a can of starting fluid and get a pal to keep the car going as you lightly spray the stuff around the carb and then work your way out following the vacuum lines. The idle will pick up noticeably when you find the hole or slash or perforation. Don't use carb cleaner.
Also, use this past thread to make sure you're even on the right "square one."

I'm new here, but do have some experiencec with FB's. I sounds like the shutter valve has failed. Specifically, the diaphram (sp?) inside has torn. It's easy enough to test with a hand vaccuum pump. Kinda tricky to replace, almost necessitates removing the carb, but doable.

I know my host was down for a few hours, but that's because of the switch from copper to fibre...
