Still no idle

Hey Guys
Got new plugs, wires, rotor and cap, originally had too fast idle. Sprayed carb & surrounding area w/carb cleaner, now dies after choke is off. Intake manifold hose was cracked, I cut it and reinstalled it. No difference. Also hesitates/surges during mild acceleration, runs fine when I gun it.
Im having trouble locating carb adjust screws, haynes maual ordered. Any ideas?

can't remember what year you had, 83 right? sounds like your primaries are clogged, when you gun it and the secondaries come online then your fine. thats my diagnoses. i'm sure someone else has some more answers that might be about rats nest problems. i know very little about the emissions crap

may need the accelerator pump diaphram replaced, they can dry and crack, comes with the carb kit, the air/fuel screw is on the drivers side towards front at base of carb, normal setting is bottom out then back it out 2 1/2 turns, the idle screw is below the accelerator pump, and you WILL need a flashlight to see it, doesnt take much tweeking to adj rpms, there is also a TPS screw to the rear of the t-stat housing, check the connections there. http://pittdp.homestead.com/underhood.html
do a search on hesitation, lots of fixes there,,,good luck and have fun,,,,,,

Can you tell me where the accelerator pump is? I am a engine novice, but thanks to all of you I know 100% more than I did a week ago. It's a '95, by the way.
Thanks!

95 with a carb huh? anyway, accelerator pump is on the passenger side lower towards the front. square with a raised circle and a lever coming out of the center facing down. i don't see why it would affect it like this though. its used to boost extra fuel in as you hit the throttle from idle so it won't stumble. from there on it sits unless you've modded the carb to use it differently which i'm going to guess you haven't. probably needs the diaphram replaced nontheless. its quick and painless. i replaced mine when i rebuilt the carb. tore it down, let it soak in a 5 gallon mix of carb cleaner and gas, then took toothbrushes and compressed air to it. rebuild kits are only 20 and your down time is mostly letting it soak and trying to hook up all the parfangled cables. if you do decide to rebuild, i'll warn you to watch two things: tiny ***** and pins in a couple holes.

Oop, '85, not 95. Thanks, also, where exactly are those
filter screens? Are they underneath where the two metal fuel tubes enter the carb? There is one large bolt on the driver side that seems to hold all this, but its rounded out. I took the two bolts out of the very ends of the metal fuel tubes, nothing in there. These are the ones on the very top of the carb.
Thanks again for all the help.

sounds like the little screens have already been removed, the pump on the 85 is on the drivers side towards rear by the accelerator and cruise control cable thingie,,,,,,there are 4 small screws that hold the square pump cover on, put a magnet on the shaft or use a magnetized phillips , or u may loose one of the screws in nowhere land,,,good luck.....
