Spark + Fuel + Compression = running engine

So your spark plugs are new. How new are your plugwires and your distributor cap/rotor? If you don't know, or don't remember when they were changed, then you should look into changing those. Use the Heynes manual to check for spark.

To me though, it sounds like you're flooded. Pull the plugs and check if they're wet. If they are, disconnect the fuel pump, crank it a few times with the plugs out, wipe the plugs off, put it all back together and try again.

If they're not wet, perhaps you're not getting proper fuel. Check your fuel filter. 5 bucks and 5 minutes (it's just in front of the tank on the driver's side, bloody easy to replace).

Fusibles won't really cause starting problems like that... they'll cause electrical problems like a complete lack of starter, and headlight problems, but if it's cranking, it's soemthing else.
