Unhappy Still having acceleration problems

Well I've gotten some good ideas from a few of you, but sadly everything I checked was good. For a recap...I can rev the engine fine at a stop, and can even hold the revs up high for what seems like forever. On the road, the car acts like it is running outta gas at about 40 MPH.

Things I've checked:

Fuel pump output..ok
Sight glasses in carb...ok
Checked floats anyway...ok
Checked accelerator pump functionality...ok
Cleaned out carb very well to check BBs and jets and stuff....Found some sediments, but got everything squeaky clean.
Checked for vacuum leaks...none detected

Any ideas of what else I can check? I want to make sure I'm not missing something, before I get a carb kit and rebuild.

BTW...Thanx for all of y'alls help so far.

When you tested the pump, did you check for volume, how many cc's did it put out in a minute. Check to make sure yoou have proper voltage to the pump and ground. You should
run a gauge taped to the window as you drive to see where the pressure is at. Try this first, does the engine shuttoff? rx7doctor

Doc. I tested the pump for volume, but not pressure. It put out 6 cups aka 1.4litres. I'll have to get a gauge, but it will be worth it to me if I get this thing on the road. The furthest from the house I've gotten is about 2 blocks, and I've only gotten it up to 40mph. 8(

FB. I wish it was the filter! lol I put a clear one inline so I could watch flow and for trash from tank. So far so good.

Check to make sure that the spring that controls the secondaries on the carb has not flipped over, this happens quite frequently and will give you the same symptons, rx7doctor

They were vac driven until last night. I hooked the linkage together to test mech fuctioning, but wondered if anything else needed to be done. I guessed not, because it would rev when I moved the secondaries by hand.

Doc...you lost me on that one. Which spring are you refering to? The one on the butterfly valve shaft, with the linkage?

Also, check your ignition. Make sure the timing is correect and that it advances with the throttle.

I haven't checked my timing yet. Been kinda avoiding that. BUT my carb spring looks like this pic in the "wrong" way!!! I'll have to remedy that. If this fixes it, I'll definately owe you Carl.

Sorry Doc, didn't mean to leave you out. I'd owe you too! This doesn't seem to fix the problem, but I've only tried running the car once. I still need to check timing and do the fuel pressure gauge on the windsheild trick. Expect more tomorrow!

Thanx y'all

Looking at the haynes book, page 79 pic 24.3/51, I realized I don't see a power valve solenoid on my throttle body.Passenger side near center if you don't have the book to look at. There is a hole there with what looks to be a brass plug inserted. Is this ok?
Also, what color are the wires on the connector to your coasting richer valve?

Talking

Hooray!! I finally found the problem area. The last time the car started to stall, I shut her off. Looked at the front bowl=fine backbowl=EMPTY! I guess I wasn't getting her shut off fast enough to see this before. Now I gotta figure that out. I just rebuilt the carb last night, so I may have set the float wrong or something. Things to check?: Rear banjo and filter, check float level and action of the thing it moves(good ol' newbie terms, huh), and everything in between for blockage. Sound about right?

Phew! Never been so happy to see a problem.

Your needles could just be sticking. Just tap the rear banjo bolt a little and see if that helps. This is common on freshly rebuilt carb.

How do you fix it? Can you just pull it back on there? I just found my problem, now to fix it.
