Sticking Throttle...I Searched To No Avail
Ok, I know this is basic, but its driving me bananas. I have an 83 GSL with an 84 GS engine and the 83 GSL carb. When the car is running, it runs fine, no problems. The car revvs nice and everything. The problem comes when I stop or anytime I let the car come to an idle. It will stop at 1500 everytime (ok, sometimes 11-1300). If I pull back on the pedel just a little bit, it will drop and say down until I touch it again. Anyway, as you can see, this isint detrimental to my car, its just annoying. I have tried the usual spray carb cleaner on the linkages and everything...But it hasent done anything. Im concluding the problem is linkage related, because if it was just the idle screw, me pulling on the pedel would have no effect. Anyway, any help would be great.

PS - As the title says, I searched, but everything just said to lube it and clean it. I tried that

Try spraying lube onto the hinge of the accelerator pedal itself under the dash and take the throttle cable out and greasing it up then reinstalling it. Changing the throttle return spring on the carb might help too.

I was thinking "throttle return spring" also. Mine sticks at about 1k sometimes. I'm gonna try a stiffer spring but haven't gotten around to it yet. Lubing that cable also sounds like a good idea.

disconnect the throttle cable and see if it still does it. that will narrow your options down to either the carb, or the cable/pedal linkange. the gsl-se's (and 58 tr3's) wear out the throttle shaft bores and have similar symptoms. i have never seen an rx7 carby do that though

I tried disconnecting everything else (choke, hot start, cruise, whatever), but it didnt even occur to me to disconnect the main one...Im kinda retarded sometimes though . Good idea. Ill try it in the morning. With the cable disconnected, the carb will only be idling at the speed set by the idle screw right? So I can set the idle perfect and then reinstall the cable so that its just barly ready to move the linkage...Right? Would that be the best way to "reset" the idle srew and cable adjustors? cause I played with both trying to fix this...

EDIT: I tried disconnecting the cable, and the car ran, but idled at like 600 RPMs and didnt like it. I revved it (using the cable in my hand), and it went up and dropped back down again, but as soon as I hooked it back up, the idle went up to 1500. So I tired adjusting thenuts and what not, I got it to sit at 800 after a long time messing with it. I got in, gave it some gas, and the ****** came back, hit 1500 and stopped . Guess its time to lube that cable?

you should set up the idle speed with the carb. they actually want a little slack in the cable, to keep the throttles from hanging up
