Steering column information needed.
are 1st gen 7 steering wheel column the same as 2nd gen steering wheel column

No,
not even remotely close, the 1st gen (SA/FB) uses a recirculating ball steering gear box, and the shaft goes directly into the gear box. the gear box must be removed in its entirety at the same time as the column in order to remove the column.
the 2nd gen(FC3S/FC3C) have rack and pinion steering, you have a universal joint inline the column and the steering geara box can be removed seperately from each other.
if you cannot visulise the differenance between them after this explanation, I would reccomend that you should look into a couple of FSM's to get a better idea.
