Steering Column that goes in & out?

Has anyone broken their steering wheel column and fixed it by doing this http://serzy.rx-7.org/tips.htm
If so, where did you drill? Can you see the plastic injection or what? Is it under the column yoke? Was ready to do mine and could'nt find where to drill. Need help. Thanks in advance...

My -SE does that. it buggs the **** out of me. i don't see how a kotter pin would fix that though. but it sounds like it's a common problem on the 7's

My steering wheel was fused on, tried to muscle it off and thats what it got me. I had to use a die grinder and cut it to finally get it off. I know someone has done this just got to find em.

Theres a much better fix out on the net somewhere. We had some good threads on this on mazspeed. Go there and search for them. BTW, that pic is stupid. It tells you to put the cotter pin thru the tube as well as the column. If you did that, then the shaft will never turn ever again. I advocate the aluminum pop rivet shank. Strong enough to hold, and weak enough to break in an accident, allowing the column to collapse and not impale you. A cotter pin is too strong IMHO.

WHAT???

McFly are there????

Fix the broke pins several times, usually cause somebody beating on their steering wheel and did not use a steering wheel puller.

Aluminum pop rivet is the best solution, as Carl pointed out. My race car I tap the holes and install a allen set screws. probably not the smartest thing I have ever done.
