Steering Angle...Fab guys enter.

OK guys, as some of you know im turning my FB into a drifter (among other things) and im trying to think of ways to get my FB to get my steering angle. Now i dont want...oohh its impossible. i know its not. Hence why i said Fab guys enter, as this isnt something just anyone knows how to do. Unfortuantly at this time my FB is nearly 30mi away from me, and i dont have the time to stare at the suspension, and decide the best course of action. So FB guys. any ideas?

You can grind off the stopper tabs, but you may rub your wheel into suspension bits.
The problem is that it uses a steering box. So you can't just take the rack apart and make the interal stops wider like the rack and pinion guys do.

A longer steering arm would resulting in more steering angle with objects removed such as the stoppers, and you'd need to move/bend the steering arm/knuckles out of the way of the lower control arm.

From FB drifter to another.

I have spoken with Billy (Bwaits) from Respeed about this. He may have something in the works by now....

Turn-in-spacers, bump steer correctors, ackerman blocks. All different names for the same product.. They nake a huge dirrerence. respeed and g-force engineering make them.

I believe he's looking for modified steering knuckles, ones that allow the wheel to turn farther and have a better angle at full crank.

If you have the money, why not get the rack and pinion conversion from respeed?
That way, you could use rack spacers and you would eliminate the sloppy box.
If you are to the point in drifting where you want more steering angle, then you should also be willing to shell out some more money for good products.

2nd gen subframe would be cheaper and all the things to increase steering angle are widely known

But the added ackerman changes the way the car drives. it makes such a huge difference you won't feel like you need more angle after adding them.

During slides you want more steering angle no matter the reason. A few of the ae86 guys have like 70 degrees, it's nuts. It all helps to keep your drift going at a larger angle. The more angle the faster you can enter the corner.

The only draw backs are, increased number of turns in the wheel and greater understeer on corner entry if your too aggressive with the turn in.

Yea 60 degrees even would be fantastic..lol. and yea im tired of seeing FB's drift and look like they have no angle..bugs me.

I however will not have issues with wheel turns. im running a steering quickener

I'll have to try that. Im kinda concerned about running into suspension bits also..however if i do i'll just tub my front. 17x9 +2 offset is going to be interesting up front..

Ahhh now I see. That looks sweet!
17x9 would seem almost impossible. If you can pull it off though it would be amazing.
Good luck!

Is there a kit for that KA swap? I roll with a bunch of 240 guys, and motor stopped working recently. Though I'd rather swap in a 4ag, as I'm a Toyota boy.

The stock steering arms are simple. I keep thinking about making my own from steel stock, and using a high strength 3/4" Heim as a ball joint.

FC knuckles, by themselves, will add steering angle, since the arms on them are a little shorter. Oddly enough, it looks like you can use a 3/4" aircraft bolt in the balljoint stud hole and then use a 3/4" Heim... if you didn't want to modify the FB control arms to take FC ball joints.

Shameless hotlinking:

That's an SA, with FC knuckles, and custom control arms using Heims. Rolling a few times will break pretty much anything, don't let the carnage worry you...

Can you give me more details on the swap? My car died and I need to get back on the road, and that seems like a fun swap.

This isnt necessarily the best way to get your car back on the road...lol. however if your seriously interested PM me, i dont want to clutter up the thread on specifics. I will tell you this wasnt super cheap. however there is probably cheaper methods i've learned.

Why not just make a separate thread about it.

That'd be good reasons not to be doing that.

Self, I try not to emulate things found on upside down cars...
