It Starts!
I've been trying to get this started for months.
To review:
It has a header and the PO had rebuilt the carb ('85 S).
It would start when I put some gas in the carb, but then die, so I figured it was a fuel issue. I replaced the fuel pump, fuel filter, checked all of the vacuum lines and fixed/plugged what I could find.
Still no luck.
I was just about to replace the carb (not knowing what or how well the PO did on the rebuild) with a known, good carb when I found a "how do you start your RX7?" thread and read through that. It's amazing how many different techiques there are. I started going through the various methhods and the no-choke, no-throttle one worked for me. Now it starts everytime. I still have issues (high idle initially, bogging while cold, etc), but at least it starts.
Hopefully this helps someone else who *might* get frustrated trying to start their RX7.
(and WHY do so many different techniques work? particular cars and their quirks or what??).
...just thought I'd have a different title for a change too.
