Handy Drum Brake Shoe Install Dodge
I've never enjoyed installing drum shoes, because the springs are such a pain to get back on; the pads slide around, wasting the precious blobs of grease they are supposed to ride on, and if that spring slips out of your grip - - BLAM!
Had me a simple idea last weekend, while putting new drums on:
I grapped one of the 1" accessory web straps that all us divers seem to accumulate over time (scuba diving is fuelled by equal parts neoprene, nylon webbing, and velcro), and used it to restrain the shoes tightly against the separator bars:
Presto; ultra easy shoe spring install followed.
Made me feel real bright for a good 10 minutes. (until I realized the "bad" shoes I had replaced, that didn't fit, didn't fit because my E-brake cable was too tight...)

Very interesting solution, never seen that one. Years ago when drum brakes were the norm, I bought this fancy brake multi-tool. Works great for both removal and install. Unfortunately, this was before all of the compact cars came out with their tiny rear drum brakes, lol. Smacking myself in the face when the vice grips slip off a spring tends to **** me off. Even moreso after throwing the grips at the fender, only to have them bounce back and hit me in the same spot.
