Starting Problems
Starting Problems
I bought a 85 GSL-SE a few weeks ago and I've been having some occasional starting problems. Yes, I've searched around and found some info, but it doesn't quite answer my questions.
The car has always started right up in the morning, even in very cold weather. If I stop someplace and come back in 5 minutes it's fine. However, when I drive somewhere (more than long enough to warm the car up) and park it for an hour or 2, it either doesn't start or eventually does, but with lots of smoke, shakin, etc. So, it start hot or cold but not medium. Could it be a leaking fuel injector? Wouldn't that also give me problems in the morning. How about fuel pressure?
Also, how do you spray starting fluid in a fuel injected car? I'm used to carbs. I took of the air cleaner and sprayed some in there, but how does it get in if the throttle is closed? I've always been told you should start fuel injected cars without pressing the accelerator.

yes, you should start fuelies without pumping the gas, unless the fuelies are f**k'd up and need help. (that my rule, some ecu's will also cut fuel while cranking with WOT, useful feature)
as for the shakin stuff, my MKII supra did the exact same thing.. i suspected it was heak soak or lousy fuel pressure, but i blew up the motor, so i couldnt diagnose the problem (there was a much larger problem caused by the lack of a rod bearing that needed to be addressed first
edit: ****, that reminds me! i first learned about heat soak while researching RX-7s years ago... do a search. that'll help!
