Little help with gauges?
Hi everyone,
I've been reading this site's posts like some kind of 1st gen bible since I have had the gsl. I just wanted to thank everyone for the information that I have used and re-used over time, it's been invaluable.
OK, so here comes the newb question. I bought some gauges (water temp, oil pressure) a day or so ago. I'm looking at these things, looking back at the instructions, at the engine bay, then pretty much starting that process all over again repeatedly.
I got some good info on the oil pressure gauge from a previous post, but I'm still having a little trouble finding the sender unit. Maybe It has something to do with the fact that I'm mildly retarded. LOL. If someone wouldn't mind holding my hand and walking me through this, I would really appreciate it. Also, if someone had a picture of what the unit looks like I think it would be a lot easier but that might be pushin' it, eh?
I'm also not sure where to attach the water temperature sensor. Does it go on top of the radiator where that other line comes out? Please forgive my noobishness, but I'm trying to learn. Knowledge is power right?
Once again, a HUGE, HUGE thanks to every member who has helped me directly, or most likely, indirectly since I've been here. You guys really know your ****, and I respect that a lot.
Well, I've got to go brave the dangerous-*** Montana ice paths some people call roads. Hopefully someone will read this and take pitty on me.
And with that, I bid you all a fond farewell.

I dont have pics here at work, but the oil pressure sender is right under the filter. Its a gold bulb looking thing with one wire connected to in a side connector. For water temp, Id remove the choke switch and use an adapter fitting.

Thanks Carl, that was so quick!
I'm home from work now, so I'll see what I can do. BTW, what is the choke switch? you're not talking about the manual choke lever are you? I live in Montana at 6,000 feet, so it stays VERY cold always till summer returns. Wouldn't removing that make it hard to start?
I know you're a hell of a lot more knowledgeable on this subject, so I'm guessing I misunderstood.
Can't thank you enough for your help Carl. It's good to see people who know these things inside and out helping tards like me.

with the oil pressure your going to need to buy an adapter...which goes from a female 1/8" NPT to a male 1/8" BSP..............pretty much the only place i have been able to find them is online at places but nowhere local..
as for water temp theres also a place to install the sensor that is located under the A/C compressor.. if you search you will find the post up about it... i will try also and will post back up if i find it...
man i dont know how people are living up north when its already snowing and is below 32* just the other day i was thinking about going to the beach for alittle surfing..

not only is it below 32 degrees, a few days ago it was -20! You get used to it after a while. I'm sure the Canadians around here know what I'm talking about.

Rusty's right, but I have just screwed in a 1/8npt nipple into the hole with some teflon tape and its been fine for years. Did you find the sender?
For the water temp, on the back of the water pump housing is the thermostatic choke switch. What I did is remove it, use an adapter fitting for the W temp gauge, and jumped the connector so the choke magnet always has power. Now it stays out all the time and has to be manually pushed in after warmup. I guess I could put a switch next to the choke **** to cut power to it after warmup. Then flick the switch and viola' the choke drops off. But the way Rusty's talking about is actually gonna be easier I bet.
