Starting problems

Well, here goes. I was getting ready to do my carb swap. I decided to clean out the motor a little with MMO. I started the motor, let it run a little to warm up, then shut it off. I put the MMO in the carb, and let it sit a little. When I went to start it, it cranked over, smoked a little, but wouldnt start at all.
Got the new carb and manifold in the mail. Weber, mmmm. I pulled the rats nest to put it all on, all bolted up nicely, but no startie. Now it will rarely ignite the mixture, just cranks over. I tried starting fluid, just to make sure fuel was getting in the ingition chamber, still nothing. Checked spark, all good. Cant figure it out. My best guess is ignition timing. I didnt mess with the distributor, but I figure maybe since the vacuum advance has no vacuum source it could have changed something. I will have to borrow a timing light for that.

Anyone have any ideas???

PS I have made sure fuel is getting to the carb, and that I'm getting spark.

Maybe the MMO fouled the plugs?I had a set of plugs on my RE/PU that looked good to the naked eye,and I even cleaned them up,but they would not fire the mixture.I replaced the plugs, and guess what it fired right up.Just a thought.I wouldn't think the timing would have changed unless you messed with it.

OK I'll try that. In the meantime, any more advice? ANyone know hao to maintain the vacuum advance without the ratsnest. DO we NEED the vacuum advance?
