Starting problem ***SEARCHED***

Ok, here is the deal I picked up my buddie to take him to my job so he can get a job. I was driving around all day turned my car on and off a dozen times, never felt the slightest bit funny starting up or turning off. I went to pay a ticket I have while my bud was doing the paper work turned the car off went in took care of business, came out started my car up no problem and off I went. Got to my work and turned it off, then before I even got out of the car I decieded to go grab something to eat. Tried to turn the car on and NOTHING happened.

When I turn the key it seems like something isn't catching inside, it doesn't turn on or anything. No acc., no nothing. headlights come on, blinkers don't. The head lights flipped up but won't go back down. the cluster doesn't even flinch. So I've no idea why this happened. Oh and I can pull the key out about 1/4 inch, and I don't remember being able to do that before. I'm just trying to figure out whats wrong with it. I have a parts car so parts aren't the problem. I just need to know whats wrong. Honestly I have no ide.

Thanks for any help ahead of time.

Check your fusible links. Does your clock show a time? Does that time (if it's there) dissapear when you turn the key?

Fusible links are on the driver's side strut tower, towards the battery side. Make sure that they're plugged in nice and tight and feel them to see if they're burnt. This is a common problem. Swap links from your parts car if you have to but remember that the middle one is bigger than the other two, so you can't use the smaller, wimpier ones there.

Thanks I'll try that, I didn't even think to check the fuses under the hood.

Sounds like the main link to me (middle one). You can pop in a replacement fuse instead of using the fusible link stuff. darkfrost did a write-up on it. I think it is in the archive. It can be hard to tell if the fusible links are bad. Go ahead and swap and see if that fixes it.

There are fuses that plug into the fuse box without having to replace the box to a 2nd gen box.

Other than that for now you can strip the insulation off the fusible link and twist the ends together to get you going, if it's blown.

yeah i got it running I just couldn't believe I forgot that. the 2nd post was just incase it could be anything else.

It ended up bing the fusable link.

thanks guys. I think I should've been able to find that don't know why I didn't. Think I just didn't know what to search for.

Fred

Thanks again.
