Question Redline "Beep"

Hey guys I keep on hearing about this redline "beep" but I never heard it on my car. Is there a way to check it or replace it or fix it?

I've had my car for a few months now, and just now heard the buzzer for the first time last week, though I've hit redline countless times. Rather odd.

Mines so fucked up that some day it comes on at 3000 and others 4000 to 6000 and other days it works right and some days it doesn't work at all.

Thanks for the info guys and yes I have enough post to search for this but and not look like a noob. However, I have nerver heard the buzzer on my car since I had it and I was thinking for a minute that it was maybe something on cars with a computer on it etc... Anyways, no I always redline my car and never heard it and my exhaust sound is not supper loud for me not to hear a beep.

I will do the search under "redline buzzer" and see if I can find any way to check on it but who knows I might as well put a tech-light on instead.

My friend Joel's car doesn't buzz.. It's an '83, and I assume it has one that just doesn't work. I don't know of any year/model of Rx7 that doesn't have it, but you never know, it might exist..... My '84 has it, my friend's '85 has it and the Heynes has a '79 or '80 that has it (judging on how most of the book is about an SA teardown and rebuild and it's a pre-'84 style dash)

The one in my car works flawlessly. 6.8krpm every single time I hit it with friends just to make them say "who's honking at you now?"

I don't know if it makes a difference or not, but with my automatic tranny I've never had the "redline buzz". Whether its just because it is an automatic or because the buzzer is malfunctioned due to age is beyond me.

Redline damage?

LOL, are you kidding me? Mine has nearly 200K on it, and never been opened up for repair or rebuild. I owe this to the fact that probably 20% of my shifts (after warmup) are made at or after the redline. Carbon kills man.... If you redline a piston engine, you know that you're slowly killing it and therefore feel guilty. The rotary is the only engine I know of that you can redline while still feeling good about it.

LOL!@Kentetsu, true that about the redline of a rotoray and feeling good about it. I always do feel good about it.

Hey mazdaverx713b, I know i red that most rotory enigine came with a buzzer which is to help save the engine when it stay to long in redline by cutting off the fuel and turning off the engine. However, I have my car for a year never knew anything about rotory engines until I started messing with mine. Thanks to ColdBlue, Kettlman and others in this forum I got to learn alot in such a short time. However redline buzzer was never my problem since I can redline good with out it. I can tell my engine gets around 7.5K before it kind of slow down and boots up fast to 8.5K so just a matter of timing. I was curious about the buzzer thing which I will take a look at it during the summer of 06.

Anyways, mine could have one but broken then.... oh well shift lights are cool anyways hehe

My 83 does not have one and from all the clusters I have pulled, it SEEMS that only the S3 cars had the rev buzzer. I even tried to swap tachs, since the tach from the S3 cluster has the output for the redline buzzer and NONE of the S2 cars I have tore apart have not had the output part OR the electronics for the buzzer. I do have a buzzer on the back of my instrument cluster but it is for the headlight on/door open chime (ding dong ding dong). If someone could find the actual redline buzzer, I would appreciate a pic of it or a decent idea of where it is located.

It could be just a simple option that some cars had it and others did not. It seems this way looking at the back of the cluster. I personally would like to have the buzzer or at least to make a shift light from the output part of the tach for the buzzer. If you look on the back of the cluster, there is a place for it to be hooked up. It is labeled BZ behind the tach.

for once and all all rx-7 's came with buzzers .... if you don't hear it its just not working, usually its not the buzzer that goes but a connection between your buzzer and the tach thats goes which can explain the on/off states that most people have or the buzzing at different rpm ranges. reallly annoying would be a buzzre going off at 1k every time ... that would be annoying.

Then why is it that the ones I looked at didnt have the output for it? I will post a pic of it, so you can all see the difference.
