starter issue

The last time in reinstalled my motor the starter was acting up so I thought it was junk. Fortunately I have a few extra starters laying around. The problem is this is my only fc starter. The strange thing is once power is hooked up to it, it spins and throws sparks. I know I have a good ground, and I have no problem with the other starter. Ideas?

Double check you main cable and make sure it is not touching the solenoids male terminal.

Should the engine be grounded off the long bolt on the starter?

I did as you said, the main lead must have been touching. After I reinstalled everything, it works great. I forgot how much better the fc starters are than stock.
