starter fluid

Hey guys

Since it has been so cold outside, the only way I have been getting my car started is using a little bit of starter fluid, and it starts right up every time, but im wandering.....is it bad to alwase start your car with starter fluid, like.....will it harm the carb after some time or anything??

i did some searching, but I couldn't find a thread were anyone has asked this question.

Not a problem, use the least amount you can for starting.

This could be due to low compression, but first make sure that your timing is set correctly...

I think that I have good compression, because I get great sounding air "woosh" from each port, but I do need to check it.

I am pretty sure that my timing is off, because the guy that had the car before me put the engine in the car himeself, and I know that he didn't much much about these things. And also, my idle it kinda messed up, and when I rev it up, on the way back down at about 1500rpms or so it will just stumble like a bitch....so yeah....I think that timing has a huge part of why my car doesn't start easily.....and only......its been snowin over here non-stop, its snowing again right now.......I think its like in the low 20s outside right now.

thanks for the input guys

ive heard that too much starter fluid eats oil out of the engine, but dont quote me on this...

do you keep your car garaged? it may be because of the cold. my car wouldnt start after i left it out one night, but it was also WELL below 0 at the time.
