started premixing but now smokey exhaust
I recently bought my first rx7. its a 84 gsl. I decided that I was going to pre-mix so at my first fill up I did so. I drove the car for a week almost daily with no problems but now that it's winter I don't drive the car that much. When I do start it up now and drive it, it smokes. I think that all of my 2 cycle oil is sitting at the bottom of my tank because it just the car doesn't move to keep it mixed. Does anyone know for sure?

ALL 2 stroke engines smoke due to the burning oil, especially in the winter. I'm guessing the same principles apply to premixed fuel in any other type of engine.
Haven't you ever heard the term 2-Smoke? Get it...a pun on 2-stroke?
Are you talking a ridiculous amount of smoke? Does it clear up at all after the engine has warmed?
I don't think the oil and gas separate, the company's definitely have it down to a science so that the oil mixes with the gas and stays that way. I've left pre-mix in jugs, and have had my dirt bike / chainsaw sit for months, and the gas and oil doesn't separate.

It smokes more than a little at start up (normal) but it stays pretty thick. I'll have to check my ratio's. I think that's the problem. Too much 2 cycle oil. Thanks.

i run a half ounce per gallon but i use idemitsu rotary fuel lube. i have never had any smoking problems, and with that kind of premix it will not settle out in your tank.. idemitsu is a clear lube so you dont get the black/gray smoke

1oz/gal. is the norm for pre-mix, that gives a ratio of 128:1. At that ratio, you shouldn't be getting excessive smoke, cold weather however can cause it. While pre-mix may seperate out in a gas can, it shouldn't in the fuel tank due to the agitation from driving and the fuel pump circulating the fuel. Long term parking may do it though.

I think my OMP is not working the lines are clear. I am gonna test out a tank of mix and see how it goes. It just does not smell right and feels like it's spinning dry. It's also not using any of the motor oil (well I only drove 500 miles but it didn't move down the stick at all).
Might try that procedure soon to see if it's dripping out of the lines.
