Start Up Procedure

I am acquiring a 1983 RX 7 that hasn't been driven in several years. Al I know for sure is that it did run fine but the clutch was bad, possibly the slave cylinder. Before I just get in and turn the key, what should I do first?

Oh yeah, especially when working under the dash.

Charge the battery overnight
pour 20ml of 2 stroke down each of the primary carby barrels(the two small ones)
turn the motor over by hand a few times
pour 10ml more of 2 stroke down each primary carby barrel
remove the fuel pump fuse and crank the motor with the key
put the fuel pump fuse back in

get at least 2 new leading spark plugs

Crank away!

If there are any problems

#1 Check that when the ignition is switched on and you pump the throttle, you can see fuel being squirted into the engine. Also check for fuel leaks on the drivers side of the carby. (These go bad, my car was only off the road for a year apparently, and that was time enough for the pump pump seal in my carby to get a leak)

#2 Check for spark with a timing light each of the leading plug wires (you can test for actual spark by making a sparkplug or even just a lead arc to the chassi of the car but it is dangerous and rough. Timing light is a very valuable investment!
