Stalls over 5500 rpm

I have my RX7 since new(1980). Had a friend install holly carbs and work on the engine; headers... He never installed a high performance fuel pump. I have been using the stock fuel pump (new one).
So, every tine I go over 5500 RPM it stalls, it is not smooth. I always thought was the fuel pump.
Any comments would be appreciated.

Thanks

Juan

Stock pump is barely adequate as it is, it won't fuel a Holley that needs 6 psi. Time for a better pump.

stock pump doesnt provide enough...i used to have a stock pump and it ran horrible w/ my holley. get a holley red fuel pump. works perfect now.

Um........change the fuel filter yet? That's the most likely bottleneck if there is one.

Or even better, check out this thread for lots of info on filters:
